What fuel planning utility?

Featured Replies

I'm curious about what fuel planning utility I should use (or do I need to do it by hand)?I'm familiar with Keroplan and the planners which come with FS Navigator, Flight Sim Commander etc.But I have one problem with them all: they're more general tools and in some cases come with their own set of data for aircraft performance, which isn't necessarily the data my aircraft use. What I'm looking for is a way to pretty exactly calculate the fuel amount needed for an arbitrary FS plane. Each of them comes with its own fuel burn rate to be aware of, so the use of "general" data wouldn't be of much help here (i.e. would be more a raw approximation than a more exact planning).I suppose there are some generic formulas to calculate with, but I need the link to a specific FS aircraft as well (i.e. I need to know the fuel flow for the aircraft, wherever that's defined (.eir file, or aircraft.cfg?).How can this be performed?AndreasP.S.: I know that some products come with their own calculators (e.g. Eurowings, RFP), maybe they're useful for other planes as well?

Yes, it may become difficult if you constantly switch aircraft types. In real life of course pilots know pretty well how to go about it - you grab performance charts which let you calculate amount of fuel needed for your trip pretty quickly - and, btw, don't forget to add certain extra amount for the worst case scenario. I would not apply a Cray computer to solve it (specially in FS) - knowing a simple-nominal fuel burn rate number for a particular aircraft type/altitude and beefing up those numbers for 'common sense' and some winds - and you can practically do it all in your head. }(EDIT: there is of course another problem - an FS aircraft may have fuel consumption rates quite different from its real-world counterpart. One more reason not to get obsessed with accuracy here.Michael J.WinXP-Home,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800 Pro,WD 36GB Raptor,1 GB PC3200 http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg
