Good evening and hello.

 

I've recently invested in a new graphics card, the old one was blacking out, and trying to fine-tweak my FSX to get the best out of it all, but I seem to be getting CTDs both loading DLLs and "run out of video memory" errors. It's really very frustrating & usually takes place on descent/approach at the end of any flight longer than say, a good hour.

 

I realise it's a matter of trying and testing but I wondered if any of you had some suggestions?

Wow. that's a rare one. I never get above 1/2 my video mem. Bout have to be your Bufferpools settings in you fsx.cfg? Whats your computer specs? Video card specs?

I would try setting your bufferpools to:

The PMDGSounds.dll is usually due to a corrupt DLL.XML but it would normally give that error every time you load it.

Get rid of the Bufferpools entry.  It does not work for everyone.  OOM's on 64 bit operating systems are common in FSX and due to high settings in the fsx.cfg and the display drivers.  A bad overclock can cause this problem too.  But, right now I think it is the Bufferpools entry. 

 

If that does not resolve the problem, then I would rename the fsx.cfg and restart fsx and let the config rebuild.  Do some minor modifications of the FSX.cfg but keep your settings under the various tabs at the default.  Then run FSX and see if that fixes the problem.

 

If not, then you have a problem with the overclock.

Rendi's suggestion seems to have done the trick, for now! Thank you. Mind you, I do seem to have lines appearing down the screen every now and then in built up areas where I think the graphics card is struggling, but not crashing, which is the main thing. I can live with lines.  ^_^

 

I will try your suggestion too Jim, just to see if it gives me better results, but thank you both awfully for the help & advice; just the ticket.
