September 22, 200421 yr FS9 began misbehaving recently for no apparent reason. The simulator momentarily freezes/stutters then continues as normal. This behaviour only lasts for 1-2 seconds, but what is most baffling is that it only occurs when a particular direction comes into view. This direction also seems to depend on location. For example, rotating the spot camera is particularly troublesome. I can be flying over South East England, and then whenever the camera is rotated to look directly West, the sim will choke for a moment then recover.Nothing has changed with my system or the game, so it
September 22, 200421 yr You mean delays while the textures load? Unfortunately this is a common problem, and I don't think there is any hardware out there fast enough to fix it. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
September 22, 200421 yr Hi Craig,I've never had this problem before though. FS9 used to perform flawlessy and without a single stutter or freeze - then suddently this happens. I'm at a loss. :-(
September 22, 200421 yr Wait for the patch which should be available in about 2 weeks maybe the issue gets adressed...Claudio
September 22, 200421 yr >If you have "Ground scenery cast shadows" checked try>disabling it.>>GregI've tried every combination of settings I can think of, including that one!
September 23, 200421 yr PaulWe have identical systems, even down to the drivers! We also have the same problem flying in the same areas! I'm waiting for the patch to see if it makes a difference. As a matter of interest, what resolution do you use? I'm at 1600x1200x32 @85mhz refresh rate. One thing I havent tried is to see whether or not I have the same problem with reduced resolution. Will check that and let you know.RegardsAdrian
September 23, 200421 yr I may have found a solution! The cause of the stutter seems to be the Airport Environment 6 upgrade. I ran a few tests with and without AE6 and they seemed pretty conclusive. As I mentioned in my earlier posts, the stutter only seemed to occur in a particular direction at any one time. I compared this with the GPS, and there proved to be a nearby airport in that direction each time.I've restored my original Texture folder and everything is running smoothly. This could just be a freak coincidence though, so I'll give it a few more runs before I'm absolutely sure.
September 24, 200421 yr Ahhh... I'd forgotten that I had the same issues with AE6. Had to go back to the MX version.Greg
September 24, 200421 yr What's this MX version you speak of Greg?#Thank God I isolated the problem though, I was hours away from resorting to a dreaded reformat :-eek
September 24, 200421 yr >What's this MX version you speak of Greg?#>If you search library for "airport environment" you will find a few different versions authored by Chris Arrington. Read the comments - some of them address the performance problems.Michael J.WinXP-Home,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8, Radeon X800 Pro,WD 36GB Raptor,1 GB PC3200 http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
