Need FS Metar Help

Featured Replies

I downloaded FS Metar and FSUIPC (not registered). I havve the drivers and files needed to run FS Metar. I don't have internet access at my home but do at work. I download Metars from NOAA at the office, bring them home via disk and try to use them in FS. Well, I ran FS Metar last night for the first time and load the Metar file from my hard drive and I get nothing. It shows that 0 Metars are loaded. I really want to fly with real world weather so please offer me some assistance. I will be grateful fellow simmers...

Please help me out on this one!

Why not just download from the Vatsim or NOAA server direct to your PC at home?(I'm presuming you have an Internet connection) If you're on dial -up use the Vatsim option - it's basically the same information in a much smaller file- in fact at times it seems to be more up to date than NOAA Dave

Dave,His first post said "I don't have internet access at my home but do at work." Maybe he should get internet access at home but he doesn't right now.Zane

I should read the posts more carefully(Slaps own wrist and stands in corner).:-outtaDave

I am using FSMeteo which is payware but I can tell you if you want real weather and the ability to download offsite and then take the file home and use it this program will work. And the weather is considerably better than the default giving true zones of weather and never the generic just skimming above the clouds which looks neat but not a good idea if icing is present. You truly can look out your right window and all is clear, a cloud layer below to your left and in front a high cloud layer or even a wall of clouds if you are flying into a front... pretty neat effect and better than I expected. I will use the download without FS and exit option then use that file at home. You will have to install FSMeteo onto two computers though, your office as well as home. I personally haven't used FS Metar for many years so cannot offer any present experience with making it work. Make sure you don't have to enter anything into FSUIPC and that FSMetar will work with the unregistered version of FSUIPC and that your FSUIPC is the current version. Also make sure you have all settings correct within the sim and that the file you are downloading is the correct one, try different sites for metar info as well.Zane

Thanks.I should get a connection at home but for the moment I don't.As for what I've got I just want some way to get real world weather easily and using freeware. I loved Fly! and the ability to load a METAR file directly into the game. I just want that capacity from freeware. I have multiple METAR files and want to load them... Everything seems to load fine but then, nothing, no METAR's.

I still frequently use Fly!II with Infometar. Even with the all FS2004's features and all the add-ons I've got (Oh G O D I can't even count!) there are still things I prefer about making a flight in Fly!II. I'll see if I can find any additonal info about making FS Metar work for you.Zane

Try this link, make sure you have the latest version and follow the FSUIPC instructions further down. Let me know if it works. :)http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/fsmetar/Zane

thanks for the help so far guys...I am at work now so I'll have to wait till later to see if it works...I actually followed those directions, have the latest version FSUIPC but nothiced something this morning. I had to get the .ocx files for FS Metar that are commnly needed to be downloaded. One thing I did not do was click on the file that comes with it, I only moved the .ocx into the Wondows system folder... Maybe thats it? I don't know...Anyway, I would love if you could help me out on this one... FlyII is great in as far as its weather engine and I would love real world weather in FS... I was hoping this would be easier...

ahem, I hope your company's IT manager isn't looking....Why dont you load FSMetar on to your work computer (it's freeware after all) use it download from NOAA and do whatever it does to metar files, save the result out to a FSMetar file then take that home rather than the raw NOAA file? What is the penalty for loading unauthorised programs onto you work computer......?

OK thats a great idea for downloading here... It works fine...so my question is what version of Windows do I need for FS Metar? At the office I have Windows XP, at home I have Win 98.

can't answer authoritatively, all i can say is that i use fsmetar with XP Home

Using XP now but I have used it with ME - so guess it'll probably work with 98 alsoDave
