Question about GEX and Blue Sky

Featured Replies

So I understand GEX to be generic replacement textures and buildings for FSX.. Blue Sky Scenery is basically like Mega Scenery but not a clear... My question is if I get GEX then just download the Blue Sky stuff for the areas around the runways I fly from will that work?  Would I simply put the Blue Sky scenery a level above the GEX stuff?

And a secondary question does GEX alone have the night lighting?  I guess around the airports I would have no night lighting with Blue Sky ... Hummm maybe at night I could just turn off the Blue Sky?

There is nothing special you need to do. Just install GEX and place the Blue Sky scenery wherever you would normally place it. Since GEX just replaces the default ground textures there is no layering that needs to be done with GEX, just like there is no layer setting in the scenery.cfg for the default ground textures. GEX is pretty much an install and forget it product, nothing needs to be done. When you fly out of photo real areas then you will see the GEX textures displayed in the same way the default ground textures do.

Depends on what you mean about GEX having night lighting. Yes it has night textures just like the default textures but it doesn't include point lights like UTX does. So when you fly at night above GEX textures you will see the lights on the ground tiles themselves but no point lights 8 meters off the ground like street lights or anything like that. If you want those you need UTX or the Beetleprint night light product.

On a side note, the new ground texture replacement pack coming from ORBX called ORBX Global DOES include point lights in it as well as day, night and seasonal textures like GEX does. Also the ORBX product covers the whole world were as the GEX product needs to be purchased in regions like North America, Europe, etc.
