Fate Is The Hunter

Featured Replies

I just finished reading Fate Is The Hunter by Ernest Gann after having it recommended from another aviation enthusiast. It's a thoroughly enjoyable read from a very eloquent writer who had what can only be described as an utterly extraordinary flying career flying DC-2s, DC-3s, DC-4s, C-87s and Lodestars. It's even made me dig out my copy of the Uiver Team DC-2 to reinstall in FSX and try to recreate some of the flights. Now if only we had a really nice FSX native DC-4!

I would recommend it to anyone here who hasn't already read it... especially those who live on a diet of flight management computers and LNAV/VNAV. Check it out, you won't regret it.

It was also a movie made in 1964.  Quite a cast.  I still remember watching it.

'Fate is the Hunter' is also one of my favourites which I read from time to time.

A book which I regularly return to here is 'Talk Down' by Brian Lecomber (Where our hero has to talk down a passenger in an Arrow over the UK). It is brilliant.

Another book of his, 'Dead Weight' (A Carribean adventure) is also a favourite of mine.

I can also recommend 'Down To A Sunless Sea' by David Graham - told by a 747 pilot in a 'Last 747 flight' searching for a landing strip after a nuclear war. A brilliant tale.

Bill
