FlyTampa WOW! WOW!

Featured Replies

Just ordered the FlyTampa airports and am a bit overwhealmed (So Far). Thought possibly someone else might be interested in the results.I installed San Francisco Intl. (KSFO) and Duabi Intl.(OMDB). They look fantastic. No distortions anywhere, smooth as can be for aircraft motion, and all kinds of candy. One gigantic surprise! The frame rates are fully as good if not possibly better than my default scenery, especially at KSFO. I have a setting of 50. With everything maxed out, no drastic weather (default startup) and my default 717/personal panel, I did not see anything below the 20's. In roaming around the airport, most of the time it was giving near 40 fps. They were consistantly in the 20's to low 30's at Dubai. For what it might be worth, I tried the demo scenery for Dubai, Tampa and Miami before I made a purchase. I did not get near the frame rates in the demo's that I am getting with the purchased files. I don't know whether the corruption items in the demos caused this or what, but so far what I am seeing is a definite improvement.I have just about all of the SimFlyer locations and there is no comparrison (not bad mouthing SimFlyers, they have been my favorites up to this point, just giving the facts as Sgt. Friday used to say - (telling my age huh). Now a wee downside. I did not receive the required registration keys or serial numbers for San Diego, Tampa, or Miami yet. The keys for San Francisco and Dubai were included. In reading the FlyTampa forum I see that there have been others with this problem. They claim that they got good service results faster than they could type to correct the problem. I have not been that lucky yet after contacting the service dept. of both SimMarket and FlyTampa, but have to admit that I am an impatient soul and do not know what time it is at the service site anyway. Everybody may be asleep for all i know so I expect no problem from what I have read. Time will tell. I will add a reply with the results as soon as anything developes.Happy flying:RTH

I have KMIA, OMDB, and KSAN, all work quite nicely for me. When I purchased I got download links via email in less than a minute. Also, it could be the credit card transaction being held up by your bank. Good luck!Murrell

As expected, Martin replied in short order. As it turns out, the three airport downloads in question, Tampa, Miami and San Diego require no key or serial number.Murrell:The transaction went through fine and I also got my email reply immediately. As I said, two of the airports installed with no problem. I did not interpret correctly on the other three. They required no key or serial number. Thanks for your reply.I highly recommended this scenery!RTH

It's great scenery, but very harsh on the framerates.

Hello BoDEAN:Well, I guess you are right, but everything is relative. Compared to other high end scenery I am very pleased overall.I am getting the following, limit set @ 50 FPS:Default on everything I can setup meaning Runway, startup weather etc. All sliders are maxed out including AI Traffic.1600 x 1200 x 32. I am flying a Boeing 717 with a personal custom panel. Not the most complex, but pretty well in the medium to high medium catagory IMHO. It certainly isn't the default J3.KSFO: Spot Plane View, Rwy 1R = 35-39 Gate 40 = 45-49 Cockpit View, Rwy 1R = 37-39 Gate 40 = 35-37KSAN: Spot Plane View, Rwy 27 = 45-49 Gate 22 = 22-24 Cockpit View, Rwy 27 = 25-26 Gate 22 = 19-22KMIA: Spot Plane View, Rwy 30 = 20-21 Gate F11 = 19-21 Cockpit View, Rwy 30 = 15-16 Gate F11 = 17-19KTPA: Spot Plane View, Rwy 18R = 27-31 Gate A7 = 14-17 Cockpit View, Rwy 18R = 20-24 Gate A7 = 12-14OMDB: Spot Plane View, Rwy 30L = 37-43 Gate B24 = 24-31 Cockpit View, Rwy 30L = 21-27 Gate B24 = 28-31I realize this isn't setting the world on fire and everybody else is getting 60-80 FPS on their setups and choices, but this works very smoothly for dumb old me. Compared to Manhattan, SimFlyers KORD and KIAH and a few others I am tickled to death.Happy Flying:RTH, (Retired CFI)

I have to agree with you there sceneries are fantastic. I have all the simflyers and the Fly Tamapa are amazing. Like you I am not bad mouthing just that I find the Fly Tampa to be better on frames and they seem to release the sceneries a little faster. If only I could get Fly Tampa to do Philly I would be in heaven. :-)

Rhodges... I find your FPS very hard to believe. As I have roughly the same system and I am getting in the teens at KSFO with everything maxed including AI. :S Without AI (Ultimate Traffic) I can get 30-40 fps. Is there some secret or something? :|http://www.darkstarorder.com/SigFinal.jpgKen Weik [link:maam.org|MAAM-SIM][link:library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=kenneth+weik&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My AFCADs

The frame rates at KSFO (with 100% AI - AIAardvark Substituted Ultimate Traffic planes) are unbelievable.... It's really quite remarkable how Martin does it. In contrast I installed the SimFlyers KLAX demo at the same time and it was a SLIDE SHOW. Plus, it didn't look half as good. However, SimFlyers Vegas is really smooth...and looks good too... strange?!I got my e-mail with the unlock key for KSFO immediately after my order. If you have any problems, contact Martin at FlyTampa directly. He's really quick at getting back. Best RegardsBoone,[email protected]"Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle. Good Morning Ken:I also find it very hard to believe and I am the one seeing it.Please know that I am not an authority on scenery or anything else for that matter, FS or elsewise. Just an old retired CFI and engineer who has flown FS since the 5 1/2" disks whatever versions those were. Just a monkey and bannana man (Keep pressing the keys till I get a bannana) Have gotten a lot of bannanas though. If you will peek at the other locations that are not quite so good, maybe you can believe that I am not telling a little fib.(no offense taken).I also have all of the series I SimFlyer locations except Italy and checked the framerates for them as well. There the comparisons are unbelievable as well, although I have been able to get them where they are acceptable for movement in spite of he framerates unless you are the most critical of pureists. They ranged anywhere from single digits at the gate in cockpit view for KIAH, KEWR and KJFK to 49+ in spot plane view on the runway for KLAS, KMCO, KPHL and EGCC. Several surprising combinations ranging anywhere from 7-8 to 49+.Confession time: Yea, I know you think I am going say it is all false, but the data IS WHAT I GOT. The following is probably due to some ignorant mistake on my part, but this is what happened. After installing KSFO and OMDB for which I got keys, I got good framerates. By mistake, I did not know that Miami, Tampa and San Diego did not require keys so I installed them later after Martin (and SimMarket)straightened me out on that subject. After installing KSAN, KMIA and KTPA framerates went to pot, down to single digits. All my other non FlyTampa locations also had a drop but not quite so drastic (about 25%). I discovered that I needed to delete and let fs9 build a new fs9.cfg file. I tried multiple times both ways. If I installed those airports in FS9 with an existing fs9.cfg file (even the new one) I got the drop. If I went ahead and installed all of the airports, and then let fs9 build a new fs9.cfg file, the framerates were dandy again. It took a bit of trial and error in reediting the file to get all of my favorites back where I wanted them to be plus retain the great framerates (i.e. keyboard and joystick mains, old modules, old gauges, pan rates etc.)One other item which is not a biggy to me: With Manhattan scenery enabled, I have found that if I select an airport in that region (In my case KEWR or KJFK) and then move my aircraft to any of the FlyTampa airports that the FlyTampa locations are flashing like crazy. Obviously there are all kinds of work arounds for this. With the Manhattan scenery unchecked in the library, everything is displayed perfectly. I have not tried a flight with this combination, only by selection of airports. The only time it happens is with the above combination. The reason I did not mention either of these was that Martin and I have communicated concerning them. He sees no relationship between installation of FltTampa and the fs9.cfg file nor between the Manhattan scenery and the airports in question. I am sure he is correct and knows what he is talking about. I again am hunting a bannana and really do not. I figured this was something unique to my system setup or something I have or have not done.I would suggest that you rename/save your existing fs9.cfg file, restart fs9 and let it build a new one and then check these locations and framerates to see if it makes any difference on your system. Nothing ventured and nothing lost. If so, please let me know what you find. Also if you have the Manhattan scenery installed, go to KSFO, then to KJFK or KEWR, then back to KSFO and see if it fouls up the scenery (flashing like crazy). Do move your aircraft by slewing or whatever. The flashing may not begin until there is some movement. For what it might be worth, as others have confirmed in other posts everything else improved some as well by a fs9.cfg rebuild. I am convinced that this might be a good idea periodically anyway for a fs cleanup.Hope something here is of help.Respectfully:RTH

I got the flashing at OMDB right after I installed Manhattan and then flew from SimFlyers JFK to Dubai. I thought I might be the only one that had that problem. I uninstalled OMDB and then reinstalled and hadnt had that problem but I also have not flown that flight again. I will experiment later to see what happens.

Interesting Rhodges,Maybe there is something going on here as I am getting terrible FPS at San Francisco since I installed it. I will have to read and re-read your post.I did see hi 20's once but now all I really get are single digits, sometimes as low as 1-6 then sometimes I get 11-12! And we are talking about moving all sliders midway, no weather, no AI, during mid day (dusk and dawn are unflyable) and with the default Cessna! I think Martin couldn't believe me (as I can understand), but here it looks like someone else has experienced something similar. With all my add-ons there may be something at play here. And with so many combinations Martin could never test all for "what if" scenarios.Right now I am still exploring... un-activated some 200 add-on sceneries to see effects so far no good... maybe the cfg like you mentioned. How do force a new one to be created? Just rename the original.. and which one, aren't there two? Been awhile since I had to mess around in that area.
