Hey guys, I'm looking for a bit of advice on a new build PC I'm after. I'm looking at the 'Infinity Level 10' from CyberPowerSystem and I was wondering what your thoughts were on how this would handle FSX and various simulations? Spec is as follows:

  • CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-3820 Quad Core 3.60 GHz 10MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011***Overclockable XXX***
  • HDD: 128 GB Plextor PX-M5S Series SATA III Gaming MLC Solid State Disk [+2] (Single Drive)
  • MEMORY: 16GB (4x4GB) PC12800 DDR3/1600mhz Quad Channel Memory (Kingston HyperX Blu w/Heat Spreader)
  • MOTHERBOARD: MSI X79A-GD45(8D) Intel X79 Chipset, 3-Way SLI / Crossfire supported, 4 Channel DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ 8 RAM slots, THX TruStudio Pro 7.1 Audio, GbLAN, USB3.0, SATA-III RAID, 3 Gen3 PCIe X16, 2 PCIe x16 & 1 PCIe x1 ***Overclockable XXX*** [+0]
  • SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO
  • VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2GB 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card (Major Brand Powered by NVIDIA)

Aside from a few changes I'll make to the peripherals I'm pretty sure that's the hardware configuration I'll stick with for now.

What do you think? I'm not too clued up with this kinda stuff!

Sam.

It looks. Could you also post your power supplies. If you wanted to save some money, you could step down to an i5 3570k, and still get similar performance. You will also want to make sure to get a cpu cooler, and overclock your build. The intel tuning protection plan that they offer, is a great idea, and gives you a little peace of mind when over clocking.

Thanks for the reply, Snowingairlines, the PSU is 800w although I am unsure about the name, the reason I have gone OTT with this is because I'm intending on adding another GPU and more RAM in the future so want the PSU to back it up with, I'll look into the CPU cooler as well!

A Z77 based platform should be cheaper than the X79. Also 8 GB of RAM is plenty for FSX let alone 16. Unless you need it for other apps, I wouldn't spend the money on more. Fast Ram (1866-2400 mhz) with tight timings will aid in a more stable overclock. A single GTX 680 should be plenty for FSX unless running multiple monitors at extreme resolutions. FSX is all about CPU clock frequency. You'll need something north of 4.5 Ghz to stay over 20 FPS in all situations and even then compromises still have to be made with Fsx settings. Regards
