Advice on new setup

Featured Replies

I had been running happily on my GTX460 and old Asus 1600x900 24in monitor and decided to upgrade.

I got a GTX650 card, but to get a better resolution, I bought a Korean QNIX 2710 monitor on ebay.

Monitor arrived yesterday, so now I can run the sim on 2560x1440 and raised the refresh in the monitor to 90hz.

I tested the setup with the Majestic Q400, and whilst before my new setup I never got under 25fps, in this flight, as soon as I got in heavy cloud, I went down to 9fps.

I lowered the resolution to 1900x1200 but made no difference.

Is there anything else I can try?  Anybody able to advise what my bottleneck is?

Thanks in advance

I am running Inspector with 2xSS and frames locked at 30. Dd another test flight last night, seems the bottleneck is the weather, may need to lower the resolution of the clouds.

How much impact can I expect when raising resolution to 2560x1440?would lowering this to 1920x1400 help?

To be honest you would probably be better with the GTX 460 over the GTX 650

Whilst not FSX the above link shows the 460 1GB outperforming the 650 in other games.

Weather will definitely drop your performance, but if you still have the 460 you might want to put that back in your machine and give it a try.

Thanks Anthony, my old 460 was playing up a bit so had to change it. To be honest, I only saw the comparison reviews after I bought the 650, but I am very happy with it. It is quieter and cooler than my old 460, and I can sit on FTX YBBN at a solid 30fps which I never achieved with the 460 before...go figure, on paper the 460 looks much better.

Will play around with the resolution some more and see what I can come up with.

Appreciate your input. Thanks!
