Windshear...is that effect modelled in the NGX?

Featured Replies

I thought I asked this once before but couldn't find the post now when I looked for it and not 100% sure what the answer was so sorry for asking again.

As the topic suggests, is windshear modelled in the NGX so that you will hear the windshear warning message if the NGX experiences a windshear condition during flight?

The discussion came up in one of the weather programs forums and as I recall windshear is not modelled in the NGX but I would be very happy if I'm wrong.

Nope it isn't modeled.

Brought this information with me to the weather engine forum but one of the developers was puzzled by the fact windshear isn't modelled in the NGX since he said he was previously told the main reason for not wanting to smooth the FSX winds in the NGX was that could have a bad impact on the aircraft's ability to suffer from realistic wind effects such as windshear for example.

Maybe the NGX will be affected in a realistic way by windshear conditions only that the warning message is not connected to such an event and thus will not play.

Would have been great with a comment from someone in the NGX development team on this and what's really the deal with windshear and what's built into the model and what isn't.

Google is your friend: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/354792-windshear/

Ryan said in post 12: "PWS is not modeled - the real thing uses the wx radar to detect minute changes (Doppler shift) in the motion of particles in the airmass - dust etc. That's not possible in FSX."

He also goes on to say in post 49 (page 2): "There is no windshear modelling period. The thing would be going off basically all the time given how unrealistic FSX's weather system is with the shifting and stuff."

Thanks for the link. I did google for it but apparently missed this one.

Well, got my answer and too bad windshear isn't modelled in the NGX.

Unfortunately, in terms of the effect on aircraft flightpath and controllability, realistic windshear conditions don't seem to be possible in FSX.

I don't say this with any technical knowledge of FSX, only from having tried to create windshear conditions with the weather settings.
