Megascenery Texas + Q400...

Featured Replies

I had purchased Megascenery 2.0, Texas - The entire state, just before the Q400 released, and as much fun as I was having flying around with the Feelthere ERJ's and NGX around the state, I cannot simply fly anything other than the Q400 outside of any OrbX areas and the state of Texas. It simply looks amazing, and the feel of the Dash-8 is simply amazing.

I have about 37 student pilot hours, working toward my PPL (on hold for the moment as I'm going into my last year of University, and Computer Science is taking up all of my time at the moment, and money..) and the first time that I hopped into the Dash-8, it was simply superb. It has the authentic feel of what I experienced in a C-172, except on a bigger scale.

This thing is an amazing experience to fly, from everything to having to set manual rudder/aileron inputs on takeoff, to the little things such as the increased ground friction roll when your plane is wanting to slide sideways during takeoff due to the crosswinds (which you DEFINITELY hear, even on the little planes, if not moreso).

I have never had so much fun flying in FSX and never have I truly had an experience that was so close to the real thing during my last 5 years of simming. I just wanted to share my experiences with this plane, and also, I do recommend any MegaScenery Earth 2.0 product that you may be thinking of getting. It is kind of a weird feeling when you first fly, and take off about 1,000 feet, but get above 3, or 4,000 and you'll truly see how awesome it is. I love flying around my home airport (KMFE) and seeing the familiar sights that I did when I was taking my first lessons, and quickly became reminiscent about my first solo and first solo cross countries.

Disclaimer: Texas is a huuuuge set of files, about ~20 gigabytes of information, but it easily holds about 4-5 other complete states of information and photofiles, so even though it may seem torturous to think about downloading and installing, it is DEFINITELY worth it at the end. I cannot simply fly anywhere else that has only the default textures of UTX, GEX.

I will be uploading some pictures soon as soon I as I get into SAT, AUS, IAH, and the likes of those. The coast also looks amazing!

Here's a picture over the hill country getting into SAT, looking out of the cockpit windows.
