May 30, 201313 yr OK..I got this USB3 Docking station where I inserted a regular HD 7500RPM (256GB). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UA3I72/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I tried copying over some files..it took a long time.... So I was bummed and decided to test it out using Crystal disk mark and here is what I have. Any of you using USB3 and HD for backups...and what do you get? Are you happy with with USB3 over USB2? I used the USB3 cable that came with the docking station. May 30, 201313 yr The only thing limited in the USB2 enclosure was the seq read speed which was maxing out at 34 MB/s, that is normal and good for USB2 actually. Moving to USB3 has improved your max seq read to 60MB/s, that was the only improvement you were going to see anyway. Your ageing 256Gb drive just cannot go any faster. Stick it in your PC and test it again and I bet you get similar numbers to the USB3 test. Cheers, Andy.
May 30, 201313 yr Author Moving to USB3 has improved your max seq read to 60MB/s The primary impetus for getting this was backing up my files faster...but in the write dept, it has not improved at all.. It takes the same torturous drip drip time. Very disappointing. And I am not sure if the HD speed is the weakest link in the chain here. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
