May 31, 201313 yr I'm getting that sinking feeling that Haswell DT will ultimately be less inspiring than i7-3930K or 3970X. I'm still interested in in a 6-core processor and am thinking I IB-E sounds like an overclocking nightmare, which means if Haswell turns out to perform well for overclock then it's a year and a half before we will see Haswell E and that's more than I want to wait. One thing that has me wondering is how not having PCIe 3 will affect the top end nVidia video cards. If it was <10% impact I'd feel pretty good about SB-E and a top end nV card. If PCIe 2.x would constrain something like Titan I'd have to go for a PCIe 3 compatible processor. Anyone have anything firm on this question? Thanks in advance! June 1, 201313 yr If you get an X79 motherboard with PCIe 3.0 there actually is a way to enable PCIe 3.0. See attached links. I have no personal experience in this but I am planning to get a new video adapter so when the time comes I will give it a go. http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1607292&mpage=1 http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?17588-Nvidia-s-answer-to-x79-and-PCI-e-3.0 Hans Hjorth
June 1, 201313 yr Author Thank you for that. Does the X79 board accommodate i7-3930 or -3970? I'm going to wait for a few weeks into Haswell and some reports and if I have any doubts I'm going w/ one of these 6 core CPUs. June 1, 201313 yr Yes, both. As well as the 3960X and 3820. The 3820 is however a four core CPU. Hans Hjorth
