black screen

Featured Replies

Thought I would give this a try but all I get is a black aircraft selection screen after restarting my pc and the sim. I read that no point going any further because my system doesn't support it. Is that right?

There are a lot of reasons for a black aircraft on the selection screen.  I have it all of the time when selecting an aircraft when I am low on memory and other things are loading in the background.  When the loading in the background stops, the aircraft finally appears.  I got rid of that problem by increasing my heap limitations - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947246 and reducing the number of scenery library addons (disabling all except for what I will be using during a flight).  DX10 has nothing to do with this screen unless the aircraft you are trying to load was not made for FSX.

Best regards,

Jim

JIm, just to clear things up, I have never seen a black screen when dx10 is unticked, only when its ticked.

The link you supplied, is that fix specifically for dx10 only>

No it is for DX9 and DX10 users.  More info from Microsoft is at the link.

If the black screen is showing only when DX10 is enabled, then it could be an aircraft compatibility issue.  What aircraft were you trying to load?  Was it made for FSX or FS9 (or earlier)?

The only requirements to use DX10 in FSX is to have a DX10 compatible video card (your 560ti is compatible) and you must have SP2 or Acceleration installed.

I need to clarify that I had the black screens for 15 minutes or more waiting for FSX to load everything I have on my system.  The aircraft would not appear until every scenery was loaded.  I thought I had the problem too with the black screens but I waited the 15-20 minutes and the aircraft finally appeared.  But, of course, it would do this in DX9 too.  So I'm not positively sure what is causing your problem.  I'm just telling you what has happened to me (my experiences).  If they are showing up in DX9 but not in DX10 then I think you have an aircraft compatibility problem.

Best regards,

Jim
