June 17, 201312 yr Well, it's official. I have made the transition from AMD to Intel and I have to say I am pleased. I originally had an AMD 955 Black Edition which is a strong chip in my opinion but still ran into performance issues when playing FSX the fps was solid but didn't have the fluidity I've seen from Intel units so I bit the bullet and went with an i5-3570k and a new board. I have to say I am impressed, unfortunately my cooler mount was not compatible with my new Intel unit so I am running stock clock speeds with stock fan until I purchase another cooler but even at 3.4ghz I've noticed a difference in FSX. Amazing. I don't post here alot, but I definitely appreciate the brilliant minds who post here to give others a little insight. (Myself) Johnny Green CFII/SMEL SF340B+
June 17, 201312 yr but even at 3.4ghz I've noticed a difference in FSX. How big difference ? I'm asking since I also have AMD CPU a Phenom II X4 965 OC 3.9 GHz. Had you your CPU overclocked ? Does any body know how powerful my GTX650 2 G videocard is compared to his 560ti ?
June 17, 201312 yr I always look at the single thread benchmarks to get an idea how well each processor will handle fsx. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html As you can see the 955 and 965 are way down the list. The 3570k, packs almost double the punch at stock.

Does any body know how powerful my GTX650 2 G videocard is compared to his 560ti ? Yes i had my 955 running at a 4.2 ghz clock speed which was great but just lacked in fluidity. As of right now i just added a liquid cooler to the i5 and running at 4.5ghz stable. Personally dont have any specs to back it up but the gtx650 out matches the 560 i believe feel free to chime in if i'm wrong. My cpu z dump is listed below. June 18, 201312 yr I just made the switch myself from AMD to Intel. First Intel CPU since my Pentium 133 MHz in 1997. However for FSX/P3D, nothing beats Intel due to their superior single-threaded performance and high IPC. I went from a Phenom II X4 955BE 3.2 GHz @ 3.7 GHz to an i7 4770K @ 4.3 GHz. In terms of pure FPS, the improvement is 2.5 - 3x over my old system. So where the old system gave me 8-9 FPS (the heaviest OrbX airports), the new one gives me close to 25 FPS. I wouldn't worry about the video card. I replaced my GTX 460 1GB with a GTX 760 2GB shortly after upgrading the CPU, and the difference is negligible. FSX cares about the CPU. It doesn't benefit much from a faster GPU. -
