FSX -> Warning before you install Win 8.1 Preview

Featured Replies

I am having this exact same problem. I installed a clean version of Windows 8.1 and FSX Deluxe/Acceleration (Gold Version).  In Free Flight, I choose the Boeing 737, and change the Airport to KSFO (any airport, really), and when I click Fly Now, it gives a fatal error.  It's driving me nuts.  Windows 8.0 didn't have this problem.

I'd return to 7 at the drop of a hat if i had 8. Wouldn't spend any time thinking it through.

  • That is extremely ironic, considering the whole point of DirectX is to make it so the software doesn't care about the OS or hardware.   Do any DX9 titles run on Win8? They *should* be unaffected. It

This is an older thread from the 8.1 Preview.   Are you running the final release and having trouble with FSX?

Hello, in case you're still having problems.  You're probably using an AMD graphic card.  The cause is your AMD graphic drivers.  If you're using the current drivers 13.9 or higher, downgrade it to 13.4.  atiumdag.dll is causing the crashes.  Hopefully AMD fixes it soon.

Anyways, hope this helps.

Yes, I'm running the Windows 8.1 RTM version.

What should i do? ever since i installed win 8.1, normally the whole window becomes black although the fsx is running. everything seems to work well except i cant see a thing. however, if i check the 'preview dx10' (got this idea from some forums and support microsoft) i can see stuff but my freeware planes (posky and others except for the native fsx planes) they become grey. how can i go back to where it was?

Hi -- it's 2015 now...are there still issues with Win 8.1 and FSX?

And specific to which versions:  Standard, Deluxe, or Gold?

A friend wants to buy FSX, but doesn't know if it will run on Win 8.1

(I'm on Win 7 -- works fine).

PDN, I'm using Windows 8.1 and have no issues with FSX crashing. I have FSX Gold. One thing though, EditVoicepack 4 doesn't work. I am able to install it, even open the program. But when I click "File" to add another callsign EditVoicepack gives an error message. So until I find a fix (without buying the new pay version of EditVoicepack) most callsigns aren't recognized by FSX.

@ereedks:  Great -- thanks for the info!
