July 23, 201312 yr I could be wrong, but if object library bgl file is not in the same folder as bgl file that places an object from that library (or in the master scenery folder), it will not work. So it's possible to have 2 sceneries with same object library, and because of that - 2 libraries, each one in different scenery folder. The thing is once the object libray is active For example (x:/Microsoft Games/ Flight simulator 9/Addon Scenery/ EZ-Library or Runway 12 folders) It shouldn't be active in other scenery folders or it would cause an issue if the libraries contain the same exact objects and its tilled the same. Witch is why im using instant scenery to view what objects are inside the Library BGL Im also looking at the size For example if they both contain the same tittle, the same objects inside of them, there exactly the same size then it should only be activated once and it should show up on other sceneries. Can someone clarify this im no expert and i could be wrong but this is what i ubderstand I could be wrong, but if object library bgl file is not in the same folder as bgl file that places an object from that library (or in the master scenery folder), it will not work. So it's possible to have 2 sceneries with same object library, and because of that - 2 libraries, each one in different scenery folder. Better EXample i got this advice in this forum elsewhere [ If sceneries share the same object, then there is a main library for those objects somewhere. As long as that one library is active, then the objects will show in all sceneries. As for objects from other sceneries, unles it is strictly for personal use, you shouldn't be using other sceneries objects in the first place.] [i also do not place any sceneries in the FS addon scenery folder, i have a folder outside of FS that contains most of my sceneries, easier to keep track of.]
July 23, 201312 yr The most important thing is as joe mentioned to make sure that the active library has all its textures
July 23, 201312 yr I could be wrong, but if object library bgl file is not in the same folder as bgl file that places an object from that library (or in the master scenery folder), it will not work. You're not wrong, just misinformed. Each object in an object library has a GUID, which is a unique ID number. Note that changing the file name does not affect the GUID. FS indexes those numbers and only needs access, in fact will only use, one instance of the GUID. This is where problems develop. Joe Developer will create a scenery. In that scenery Joe will use an object, say a hangar, from an object library containing many hangars. Joe, thinking he is being helpful having included the object library .bgl, will only include the textures for that one hangar, leaving the others out to save space. Bob Enduser installs Joe's addon and loves it. Later, Bob installs another addon that uses other hangars from that object library. Now Bob can't figure out why the hangars in the second addon have no textures, even though Bob followed all of the install instructions and downloaded all of the required object libraries. What Bob doesn't know is that FS is ignoring the hangar object library he installed and is using the one from Joe's scenery. The challenging part, and I spent days trying to figure this out, is that there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to which copy of an object library FS decides to use. FIFO was the most consistent reason, yet not 100% dependable. A final note about this. Be cautious with some of the original RWY12 object libraries. You will find what appear to be duplicates that really aren't. When EZ-Scenery came out some enterprising folks re-released some of the old RWY12 libraries in "EZ-Scenery" format. When all they needed to do was provide the objectlibraryname.txt file, what they did was recompile the library. This changed all of the GUIDs, so you need both object library .bgl files. They use the same textures, so they can live in the same scenery folder. Or you can put them in separate scenery folders, repaint one set of textures, and have twice as many objects to choose from...for your own personal use. regards, Joe PS. any similarity to RW Joe's and/or Bob's was unintentional. The best gift you can give your children is your time.
July 24, 201312 yr Thanks for the clarification, was waiting for a long time for just the right answer to finally understand how things work with FS9 and object scenery libraries
