Yep a lot can be done just by tweaking that 1 slider

I can't believe I've only now just discovered this tip.  I always hated the bright night in FSX.  I already use FS Water Configurator to remove some of the moon's reflection, but now, for night flights only, I adjust my monitor's gamma to zero, and I see a noticeable improvement to my night environment.  I don't fly too much at night, but this is nice to see on my approach to Dubai at 8:00pm.

You might also want to turn up your contrast on your monitor. This will make the colors more vibrant and the blacks will be blacker than normal. Not as black as a CRT tube or OLED monitor, but still pretty good.
