Weird Ground Texture Problem I found on Two Default Airports

Featured Replies

I found this on two of the default airports so far (WIII and WADD).

What happens is I get a different set of ground texture that appear around my aircraft.  They only appear on the grassy areas and doesn't affect taxi ways or runways.

As I move the aircraft around, these textures keep popping up and following me.  It seems that there is a ring of this weird texture constantly around my aircraft at these two airports.

I've attached a pic to show how it looks.  As you can see, they are the darker textures, and you can clearly see where they begin when I chose the Trike.  Hopefully someone knows what's going on.

This usually happens due to the layering of sceneries, in particular, the order that the sceneries are in.  I had a similar problem with an addon airport and an addon scenery.  Once I placed the airport "higher" in the order, it cleared the problem up.

I know that you mentioned that it was default airports but it definitely appears like a scenery layering or hierarchy problem to me.  Double check just to be sure that you didn't bump a scenery up or down by accident.

Thanks Alexander.  I'll check out the scenery library tomorrow.

I've had this issue at this particular airport for as long as I can remember.  It happens on clean installs too.

I'll update after checking things over.

It looks like the airport doesn't have a flatten, even though it has an "airport background" in place.

I'd go back with the trike and turn on the red displays with Shift-Z, as this will tell you the elevation of the trike. If you go off the airport parts (runways, taxiways) and into the grassy areas you will either see the same elevation reading or see it display different values. If they differ, it might be by small amounts. If the elevation does differ as you drive around in the grass, then there is no flatten for the airport and one could be made.

Thanks.  I gave it a shot last night.  The altitude fluctuates by +/- 0.1ft as the trike go over bumps on the grass.  The textures popping up happens even when I'm on the taxi way or runway as well.

I looked at the scenery library and, "Asia", where I found the two airports with this problem is number 57 on the list.  "Default Scenery" and "Default Terrain" are the last two.  Do you think moving them up the list would help?

It happens on a fresh install too, so I'm not too sure where the problem could be.

Earlier I looked at both of these airports and they display fine. There are flattens in the default files for both. Sounds like you have a file somewhere that is affecting these two. It happens sometimes, as I discovered a payware airport package with one of the airports being on the east coast of the US was wiping out all airport flattens over to northern Africa!

So if it's important enough to you, start turning off any or all add on scenery and add it back in stages. You would find the culprit sooner or later.

And moving default layers around in the Scenery Library wouldn't be a solution.

Thanks Meshman.  I'm about to do a clean FSX install on an SSD I just got.  I'll see how it goes.  But I do remember seeing it on a fresh install before.

I'll report back when I have everything back up and running.

Thanks again

I did a fresh install and it's still there.  That's too bad because I enjoy doing island hopping within that area and was planning to do a lot of it when I get the NGX.  Oh well.

BDO Avitaion has a payware WIII add on.  Do you think the add on will overlap the textures so they won't pop up?
