3.21.0 lag FSX when update live weather

Featured Replies

I just update to 3.21 and notice that whenever OpusFSX updates the weather, its window pops out in sim and FPS drops significantly for about 5 seconds. It didn't happen in previous verison. What is wrong?

Per the OPUS forum at Simforums.com:

I have modified the weather map generation software which I noticed was hogging the hard disk whist it created the weather map file. This process has now been pushed more into the background so shouldn't have any effect on systems that are only equipped with a single HDD.

I will get a beta posted ASAP just in case this is causing problems for anyone.

I would recommend you download the latest beta.

Nothing is wrong and you are not doing anything wrong, please read our SimForum Announcements to keep abreast of the changes.

The Upper Atmosphere report window is automatically displayed to inform you of the progress of the GRIB data download, data extraction and lengthy decoding process - this was at the users request since before the process was mostly invisible. This happens once whilst you are on the ground and before flight, the decoded data then being valid for at least nine hours, but never downloaded when airborne just in case you fly long haul. Obviously the GRIB data is essential for flight planning so it is very important to know how the download and processing is getting on.

You now have two options for the GRIB data decoding. The default fast method processes the data as fast as possible at the expense of effecting the sims performance. The optional slow method does all processing in the background and does not effect the sim. You select this mode by ticking the Background GRIB Processing option in the Weather Downloads dialog.

The latest postings are Release Version 3.21 and the new Beta Version 3.22.0.

Just tick the Background GRIB Processing if you don't want any impact on your sim whilst the GRIB data is processed, you will just have to wait three to four times longer though before the data is processed and the weather generated. This data is normally required for flight planning hence the fast processing option is default. You should always check the Local, Lower, Upper, and Destination weather before flying anyway so the fast track option is the most popular.

The new Beta include Cruise Level Wind and Temperature map options and also prepares the way for the Live Camera Control (LCC) feature. See our SimForums Announcements and Coming Soon topics for details.

Thanks Stephen. Got your email as well. Sorry for multiple postings, Avsim gave me an error when I pressed post, I thought the server was down and didn't know they had indeed been posted.
