Need help installing FSX properly

Featured Replies

Hey,

So I just got a new computer today with my main goal to run FSX as smooth as i can.

I have done alot of research about hardware requirements and have learned that installing FSX on a separate SSD can help performance.

My computer has a 1TB Western Digital hard drive, and also a 120GB Crucial M500 SSD.

I was planning on dedicating the SSD to FSX with all of my add-ons and everything, but the SSD seems to be my main C drive and my 1TB WD hard drive is the D drive.

My windows 7 is installed on the SSD (C Drive) and it seems to be my default drive at the moment where everything gets downloaded to.

Does anyone know how to move everything to my 1TB WD hard drive and make that my default drive so I can dedicate my SSD 100% to FSX?

Any help is much appreciated,

Tyler

I'm not sure if a ssd will give you a greater performance than a 7200rpm disk (when it comes to fsx).

I think that (high end) pc's benefit more from good settings than the best hardware. I hear a lot of people with the best desktop, but have a bad fsx performance. Tweaking and setting is all you should do.

You are able to change the location of Downloads, My Documents, My Pictures, etc. by right clicking on the respective folder (My Documents, My Pictures etc.), clicking Properties and then clicking location.

I have all my Libraries on my secondary F: drive, while my Windows and FSX is installed on my C: SSD.

You might also need to change the folder where your browser downloads its files to aswell. This can be done simply through the browsers settings.

The Ideal setup for FSX is for it to be installed on its own dedicated SSD in its own folder created by yourself, not the default X86/program/files pathway suggested by the installer. This will give you complete control over the FSX files. I have 2 identical Samsung 840 256 Gb SSD's 1 for windows and 1 dedicated to FSX. After employing the usual config file tweaks and installing the correct UIAutomation core DLL file within the FSX folder, I now have the smoothest, trouble-free sim I've ever experienced. No CTD's, Freezes, BSOD's, etc .I couldn't be happier. Regards
