August 17, 201312 yr I have never used vatsim and I am curious about the learning curve. I am new to fsx and fly the 737ngx and am reaching a point where I am comfortable flying. I have been using vox atc doing ifr flights. What degree of proficiency is expected of pilots using vatsim? Since I have never used it I am concerned I would be lost and would not know what to do once I connected. I am actually currently studying for the first level of the controller exams to help myself learn the basics and become more comfortable.
August 17, 201312 yr When you file your flight plan, just put in the remarks box that you're new to VATSIM. They have no problem helping you out. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
August 17, 201312 yr Yes, as Kevin mentioned above, if you mention in your remarks that you're a relatively new pilot, controllers will take care of you. Most things that will help you online the network can be found in VATSIM Pilot Resource Centre here. August 18, 201312 yr You may want to considering joining a VATSIM ATO (Authorized Training Orgranization) whether it be a VA or other. They can help you get setup and give you the knowledge to fly on the VATSIM network and you can also get your VATSIM P1 pilot rating at the same time. Here is a list of ATOs: http://linksmanager.com/vatsimvas/authorised-training-organisation.html VATSIM: P2 | I1
