PSS Concorde

Featured Replies

It was a very sad day when Concorde made her last flight as that aircraft apart from being such a beautiful and graceful sight in the skies represented such a pioneering part of the era that she was created in.Even today nothing touches this aircraft in its capability and the way it fires the imagination.I am delighted that PSS appear to be creating such an advanced model for FS9 with so many features. Our imagination can continue not in the real skies but in our virtual skies.Peter

Pete,Yeah, it is nice to see, but, PSS are really going to have to go some to match (let alone surpass) the concorde by SSTSIM, www.sstsim.com .This addon is an execptional and extremely complex concorde addon.Dan.

Hi Peter,"It was a very sad day when Concorde made her last flight".....I agree totally. However, there may be a faint ray of hope on the horizon:http://www.save-concorde.co.uk/I know, I know, it may just be a forlorn hope, but you never know. My name is on that petition and I'm proud of the fact. If ever there was an aircraft worth preserving for display purposes then Concorde should be at the head of the cue IMHO.Cheers!Mike

Well, I hate to say it but I'm going to be honest. I don't really see anything too advanced in the PSS Concorde. To be completely honest I wouldn't say the 3D model is payware quality. Its not just a bit wrong or lacking detail but its not even the right basic shape. Which is very sad given how long they've had and how special the aicraft is. But I personally think PSS and Just Flight have rushed this one, first to try and meet the October anniversary of the last commercial flights and to have a product to compete with the Altitude/Koch Media Concorde. Its basically going to be all down to the panel and maybe sounds. That's where they are really going to have to break new grounds and I mean something really amazing to make up for the external. We'll also see what kind of price is charged. Since unlike the Airbus models they aren't many texture sets that can be sold seperatly, the price of the base model is likley to be up on the A330/40 packs. Its a crying shame. ;(I had comparison shots of the Altitude Concorde vs the PSS concorde from similar angles, though posting links would probably be "rocking the boat" as it were.Though if someone wants to see them, just ask and I'll link them in a PM or something. You'll see what I mean.

According to the PSS forum, the price will be

I know exactly what you mean, that's why its a shame. If the SSTSIM/Altitude/Koch Media version was downloadable a heck of a lot more people would know all about it. As it is, its a rather unknown add-on.That said, Concorde has worn more than just the BA/AF liveries in its time. There was the early production models, the BA/Singapore combo, the Air France Pepsi and such. SSTSIM/Altitude/Koch Media doesn't offer them (though since I know Ben Hewitt, I do have the whole BA fleet from G-BOAA to G-BOAG) and it would have been an area for PSS to try and win over some positive points for their model over the SSTSIM/Altitude/Koch Media one.

Extrapolating history, I believe that the PSS bird will be no match for the excellent and very complete Altitude/Koch media Concorde. But in one of the stupidest marketing decisions I've seen, Koch Media failed to put the product into a single US retailer's hands. I had to have a military buddy stationed in Europe buy me one there and ship it to me...or you can pay half again the price of the add-on for Fed Ex international shipping. The PSS bird will be downloadable. Its accessibility by the US customer base will make the quality comparison between the two models a moot point here. A pity, this.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

I agree that a downloadable would be better, especially since it cost a little over $20.00 US for shipping the CD. The Altitude flies well manually for landing. With the supplied panel I had to do all the flying manually since I couldnt get the AP to stay engaged. Am now using the panel from the FSFrance Concorde. For now it flies good but there's an annoying beep or chime every 8 or 10 seconds. I've changed the sound file,,even used the B747 file and still get the beep. Must be some .wav file from the FS9 main sound folder, prob being called by one of the gauges. Except for the beep I'm having fun. I plan to buy the PSS model when it releases.John

If the AP won't stay engaged there is a good chance you have one or both of the flight computers turned off.If there is a drawback to the Altitude bird, its that it might even be too complex.
