About deserts/sand textures in FSX

I like very much FSX in spite of some problems I had with this program.

Anyway, I noticed that FSX exaggerates sand/desert textures even in tropical areas (in my country for example).

Actually, sometimes flying in the tropical interior of Brazil looks like being in the Arizona or Texas State...

First question is there a freeware fix for this problem?

Also, I read very good reviews about FTX, REX textures for FSX. Do they improve generic textures areas for South America / Brazil , for example? Should I expect less desert areas in Brazil?

Thank you very much!

Hi r0drig0,

I feel for you. When I first loaded up FSX 7 years ago and found Sydney, Australia looking like the middle of the Sahara desert I was bitterly dissapointed. Luckily, FTX bought out FTX Blue and regions for the rest of Australia which fixed the issue.

While I am not 100% sure, I believe FTX Global would fix your issue (Although I am not 100% sure as I am not sure if they would just replace the default desert textures with modified desert sand textures and you would still end up with a desert base texture. I haven't yet flown in South America with FTXG, but I am sure someone who has will reply. My experience with FTXG in the likes of Europe have resulted in beautiful, lucious country fields which are just beautiful to look at).

Before investing in new textures, I would look at landclass addons that bascially tell the sim that a different, more appropriate texture will be there in place of the desert textures, Ideally you can do this yourself with SbuilderX, bit of a learning curve, but at least it will look exactly how you want despite MS's limited landclass definitions.

I really doubt that just Landclass is the Answer, that desert texture can be found muxing up everything including airport area etc etc.

No offense to that suggestion but been there done that so may times along with others... I would go with FTXG along with Landclass, fixed everything quite well in Ecuador if that helps you.

I  saw some screenshots from FTX in South America, looks better than "desert" default. I am seriously considering buying this product.

Thank you!
