September 4, 201312 yr Tonight I was flying from KTRI to KOSU. Nearing KOSU I was cleared for the NDB 27 approach. AIrnav.com shows no approach chart for a NDB 27 approach. What gives? Alan
September 8, 201312 yr Hi Alan, In "VoxATC Advanced settings" you can set the NavData Folder Vox is using. Vox uses the Level-D format issued by Navigraph. Usually it is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Level-D Simulations\navdata.In navdata you find KOSU.XML. On top you can see the AIRAC cycle: Right now it is 1309 Rev.1. Indeed, this doesn't have an approach NDB 27 (just RNAV 27L). What is the AIRAC cycle you are using? Regards, Andreas Gutzwiller
September 10, 201312 yr Author Apparently no one else does either. Does the developer follow this forum? Alan
September 10, 201312 yr Hi Alan, You need to check the afcad for KOSU using a program like Airport Design Editor (free). If it's an add-on airport just point ADE to the scenery folder where the airport bgl is located. Then, once the airport is loaded into ADE, go into 'Approach Mode' and look at the list of approaches. I bet NDB RWY27 is there as that is where VoxATC gets it's approach info from. Now, if it's a stock airport then just choose 'Open Stock Airport' from ADE's menu. Same procedure after that. If you need more help with this just let me know. September 11, 201312 yr Author Jay, thanks for the tip. And Agutz, in my too flippant response yesterday I forgot to thank you for you input. All help is always appreciated. Alan
September 11, 201312 yr That's interesting, Jay. I was of the opinion that all applications read approaches from NavData not from .BGL scenery files. Is that special with VOX? I opened the KOSU.BGL (stock airport) with Airport design editor, approach mode, but didn't see a list of approaches (I am new to ADE!). Regards, Andreas Gutzwiller
September 11, 201312 yr Alan,No problem at all. I did check KOSU when I got home yesterday, sure enough, it does indeed have the NDB 27L approach! If it's an airport you use regularly it's possible to add/delete/modify approaches using the wonderful (and free!) Airport Design Editor, written, and consistently updated and improved, by Jon Masterson and Scruffy Duck Software. Did I mention that it's free :Big Grin: Andreas, Yes, Vox uses the airport afcad for approaches and the NavData for sid/stars. Ok, so you opened the stock airport, KOSU, and it loaded (displayed) correctly. Then, you clicked 'Approach Mode' in the upper right corner. Then you click 'Lists' and then 'Approaches' and it will open a list of all the approaches. You can then edit them, one by one, or delete them. Try it again, that's exactly how I do it. Now, if you go ahead and modify, or delete and approach, let's say you delete the NDB 27L approach because we now know it doesn't exist in real life anymore, then you need to compile it and save the resulting BGL in the 'Add On Scenery/scenery' folder. Then run FSX for it to recognize your newly modified airport by re-building the scenery index. Oh, and don't forget to run the VoxATC indexer as well, obviously. If all went well, the next time you fly into KOSU and you're told to contact approach, pressing '0' to bring up the list of available approaches will not show an NDB 27L any more. If that is what you get :Applause: :Applause: :Applause: You did it! I fool around with approaches constantly, call me crazy, and I use ADE a lot, so if anyone needs further help, I'm here. September 11, 201312 yr Jay, thanks for your help. I'm new to ADE (Just downloaded it). I usually use AFX. So I opened the stock airport KOSU (approach mode), Lists, but can't select Approaches. Regards, Andreas Gutzwiller
September 11, 201312 yr Andreas, Ok, I see what you mean. Click the black button to switch to Approach Mode. It's a toggle between Airport Mode and Approach Mode, with the default being Airport Mode. September 12, 201312 yr Jay, I found it: it's when I'm in "Airport Mode" that I'm able to list and edit approaches. Regards, Andreas Gutzwiller
