November 16, 200421 yr Does anyone know what determines when an AI plane turns on its cabin, taxi, and tail lights at nite? I ask because a few days ago while spotting at KSEA I noticed some AI would turn on thier taxi, and tail lights as they taxiied to the active, and others would wait until they were cleared for takeoff before turning thier lites on. They all turned thier NAV lights on prior to taxi, and thier strobes on after being cleared for takeoff. Thanks for any help!!
November 17, 200421 yr What you see is what you get... If the aircraft is properly coded - eg, cabin lights are really cabin lights (hard coded), and taxi lights are, and all the others also are...THEN Cabin lights will lite 15 minutes before clearance, shut at departure, and back on on landing during taxing. Taxi will lite when the plane is taxiing (moving) and shut at departure. Landing light will lite at departure (clear for take off) and shut at 10000 feet while climbing. At descent they will lite at 10000 and shut after landing (transition to taxi).Strobe will lite at departure (clear for take off) and will only shut on landing (transition to taxi).Tail light and navigation light will lite 10 or 15 minutes before clearance and will shut at arrival. The problem with many aircrafts... lights are not coded properly thus you can see strange behavior with them. If you see a taxi light ON after departure, it is because the creator of the plane used landing lights code to code the taxi lights.
November 19, 200421 yr The sequence i gave seems to be build in the AI system (DLLs).The lights can be assigned in Aircraft.cfg, but it is only there to assign the exact position of the lights on the aircraft. One good exemple of what i said on my first post about lights being used to trigger other effects, is the new Nick's AI SMOKE effect where he's using the recongnition lights (Type = 7) to create smoke instead of lights...So depending on the coding of the aircraft, you might see a strobe lite when it should be something else. You should double check with the aircraft creator. If you want to verify that yourself, code a panel or a gauge that will be able to turn on and off the ten types of light, and assign that panel/gauge to that aircraft and go throught all the on and off and see the effect on the aircraft itself.
November 19, 200421 yr Hi,The lights themselves can be in the aircraft.cfg file, but the "light splash" they throw on the ground is part of the plane's MDL file.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
