September 13, 201312 yr Hi all, you may have seen my other thread, and I'm definitely considering the purchase of a new computer. This is what I'm looking at. I do not want to build one so please DO NOT recommend that, I'm looking for information on using this build to run the PMDG 737NGX and Airbus X Extended throughout the world, I don't use add-on scenery by the way. http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-8700/pd?oc=fdcwgt19b&model_id=xps-8700 XPS 8700 CPU: Core i7-4770 @ 3.9GHz (locked) GFX: AMD Radeon 7570 (can be upgraded to GT 645 - should I?) 8GB RAM @ 1600MHz If there is anything else you guys might recommend please post it here - I'm not sure if the system I'm considering is overkill or not. I'm also considering an XPS 8700 with an i5 that goes up to 3.2GHz Regards, Jeremy Chesney

September 13, 201312 yr Think your fine just swap out graphics card when your budget allows. Run fsx just fine if you do not use high settings.
September 13, 201312 yr Author Okay, are you talking about the i5 or the i7? I plan to just get windows 7 added for the moment then I can upgrade later. Regards, Jeremy Chesney
September 15, 201312 yr Hi Jeremy, The power supply shipped with the XPS 8700 is only 460W which might limit upgrades as far as the graphics card goes. Since you don't want to build yourself I'd suggest visiting your local PC store if that's an option and maybe configuring a system with an i5 4670/4670K with a stronger GPU. I think that will give you an all round better FSX experience. Try Cyberpowerpc.com I just configured something on there playing around and came out with something I think would perform better for you at around $874. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/saved/1FELXT Maybe have a play around on there. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
September 15, 201312 yr Author Thanks for that ant!! I however already purchased a better version of the XPS 8700 - I was able to get a good deal on it too - DELL allowed me the use of two coupons as opposed to one, all I care is that it's better than my old machine - which it should be! (specs are still under my avatar!) My old machine ran fine until it met it's unfortunate end - so I'm glad to get a new one but I'll miss the old one. Regards, Jeremy Chesney
September 15, 201312 yr What specs did you end up with? -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci

I'm also considering an XPS 8700 with an i5 that goes up to 3.2GHz Jeremy, I would honestly look at the Alienware Outlet. You could pick up a very capable and well built system for a few hundred more. I'm putting my flame suit on before I click send, but I bought an Alienware and have been more that satisfied with it. It's easy to work on and upgrade if you need to crack the case, it's very well built, silent as far as I'm concerned (the only time I hear it is when it performs the POST and the fans spool up for about 2-4 seconds) and heating is not an issue. Plenty of people here are firm believers of building your own (I am too, actually) but I bought my Alienware: A) For the warranty. If anything was to crap out, I'll have a tech at my house in a day or two. B) I just absolutely did not want to build this desktop like I did my last one. Just my .02 for what it's worth. ------------------------------------------- EDIT: Scratch that. Just read a little further down and saw that you've purchased already. Congrats on the purchase! From one Dell owner to another, enjoy it! Chase Barnett

It's a Dell XPS 8700 Windows 7 Home Premium 4th Gen i7-4770 @ 3.9GHz 8GB RAM (2x4GB) @ 1600MHz Nvidia GTX 645 *should work well enough - I used a 256MB card on the NGX!* Regards, Jeremy Chesney
