M20J cannot get above 20 inches manifold pressure

Featured Replies

At full throttle I cannot get above 20 inches manifold pressure. The speed on climb is around 80 and drops steadily until the aircraft exceeds specifications. Any ideas?

I don't mean to insult your intelligence, so forgive me asking -  did you try applying Carb Heat "H" key regardless of temperature and regardless if the aircraft is fuel injected or not?  That's one of the goofy characteristics of this problem - FI aircraft are also affected despite lacking a carburetor  .   It's affected virtually all piston aircraft - Carenado included.

If you haven't, try pressing "H" during climb out.  I press it when I retract flaps, but that just my way.    You're in good shape as long as you press it early in your climb out.

Sticking to basic and possible error sources. If there is a mixture and rpm lever, make sure that both are full forward. Also, to test if your hardware (throttle) might be interfering, check the full throttle command with the keyboard. That's F4 and should work every time. 100%. B-)

Other possible factors could be the airport elevation (max MP will drop with altitude) plus you need to lean mixture (which is exaggerated in the SIM, hence the note). So, for testing, perhaps clear the weather (another factor) and start at a sea level airport.
