I'm now a believer (from a Win98 holdout)

Though I don't post much, I read these forms daily. When Chris Willis released FS Sky World I couldn't wait to try it out. Much to my dismay, being a leftover Win98 SE user I was rather dissappointed with the error screen we 98 users got (I see Chris has already released a patch for it, thanks for the quick work Chris!). Well, someone posted a help thread about the error message and although the thread got off topic, it did lead me to finally bite the bullet and upgrade my OS to XP. Thinking I was in for a long night of installing, driver changes, backups, etc.. I was suprised to have it running in about an hour. The bigger suprise came when I fired up FS! WOW!Aside from the beauty of FS Sky world, I quickly discovered that the smoothness of my flights were just as beautiful. My stutters were gone! I've dealt with them for so long, tried every tweak posted and finally came to the conclusion that my old GF3 Ti 200 card just wasn't cutting it. Having 98, it just wouldn't have help to upgrade to a decent video card, they all needed XP as the OS. Well, XP has given that old card a new birth! I didn't really see an increase in FPS but the smoothness is just amazing to me! I now need to study up on XP, but it will be well worth it.So to whomever took that help thread off topic & said upgrade to XP, Thank You. It could not have been a better suggestion! Jim

I held on to 98 far too long myself. Been using XP a bit more than a year now and yes, its a very good OS.

Jim or Zev:Did either of you have any issues with peripherals like GoFlight harware, USB devices, etc. not being recognized by Windows XP?http://www.2decker.com/media/solent1-2.JPGAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

Well, I don't have any goflight stuff, but I've never had a problem with any other USB devices or other peripherals not being recognized.

I'm surprised Win98 even works with modern hardware. It belongs to the era of 200 MHz Pentiums :)

I don't have any goflight hardware either. I did have to update drivers for my Saitex X45 USB Controller but it is working perfectly. Also, my modem was so old (dial up) there were no available XP drivers so I had to replace it.

I kind of did the same, upgraded because I had to. And was stunned by the results. Felt like a fool for not doing it earlier...billg
