November 22, 200421 yr Im curious what everyone does with the exe flie of a payware plane or scenery after you install it? I have been keeping my exe files after I installed the product, but Ive been thinking of deleting them cause they are starting to take up space. Is there a good reason to keep the exe files after you installed the product?
November 22, 200421 yr Hello All, Every file I have installed in FS I keep the original zip or the .exe file. Along with the .exe's I make a seperate folder for them, and record the link, the keys and codes should I need to reinstall them at a later date.I do this on a small HD, 40G that I use for ONLY this as my FS folder is huge. This ensures that I always now have all the aircraft, scenery and such files that I have installed in FS should I ever need them.On the same note, I also have two identical HD's on my 'system' computer which I use the second one to copy 'exactaly' the first HD on a regular basis every Sat morning. So, the procedure is that on Sat Morning after cking my mail and doing what I need to do, I format the second HD which is identical to my main, and then 'Ghost' the original to it, thus, every week, I end up with an identical copy of the master, so if something happens to the master during the week, I have only a few files to reinstall.I began doing this after several lightning strikes in my area where I lost the computer and always noticed that the original HD got fried, but any other HD's remained. It hasn't failed me since and even when I screw up, I have a backup right then.Best to all,Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. November 22, 200421 yr Hi.I've kept the Aerosoft exes, but you can't just load them up again without a password, so, thinking on it they are a waste of space as you have to go to Aerosoft to re-download them:-roll
November 22, 200421 yr I keep them around usually (except for things like Ultimate Traffic which are huge). HD space and blank cds are dirt cheap. You never know when a company will go under and/or have serious website problems. Just as an example, I reinstalled fs and all my addons when the fs2004 patch came out. I went to the pmdg site to redownload my planes, and they were down for maintenance! Of course they came up the next day and all was well, but you never know when you are going to need a file. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
November 22, 200421 yr Not only I keep them, but with the cheap price of CDR, I burn them.Well, I'm DVDR equiped now, so in anycase, why keep these in your hard drive?Hope this helps!
November 22, 200421 yr I keep the .zips, but I dump the .exes as soon as the install is done. I can always unzip and recover the exes, anyway.
