Menacing HD Shadow in VC

Featured Replies

With Fixer HD Jet Shadows, I'm seeing this menacing phantom shadow from an unknown source lurking with me in the cockpit. Very creepy!  :Pumpkin:

My jet is stationary so the VC shadows should be too (and mostly are). But as I pan around the cockpit, an ominous shadow passes over. I've only noticed it in one tubeliner so far (MV B732) and it does not occur at angles to the sun. What's causing that shadow and is there a workaround? Here's a short clip:

Can you sit in the VC and raise your seat until you go through the roof and the look around?  How big is the VC cockpit relative to the plane?

HS Shadows work by blowing up the VC when calculating shadows,  it may be that so I am zooming too much in this case.  Strange shadows related to eyepoint would be what I would expect to see.

If you can save the flight so you can reproduce I will build a version with a smaller zoom for you to test but it will be  a few weeks.

I guess I will add a slider in a future release, it was my original intention to do so.

I'm not sure what you're asking about the size of the VC in relation to the aircraft. So I moved my eyepoint well up and forward of the VC and turned around and took a screenshot (attached). Does that help you?

In the video, the eyepoint is in a 'normal' spot. I simply zoomed out (not moved the eyepoint) to show more of the cockpit to demonstrate the problem. Also, if I position the sun differently in relation to the aircraft, the looming shadow moves out of the frame and the shadows look perfect. It's like an invisible object is casting a shadow - a camera?

The aircraft is a MilViz 737-200... so not big, not small either.

I'd be happy to test for you when you have a zoom control for the shadow mask.

BTW - I am completely thrilled with the Fixer. Just trying to help shake out all the little bugs and exceptions.

Cheers! Brian

In the VC design, Brian - it's normal not to include anything that is not visible from the inside of the cockpit/flight deck: i.e. the tail, rear fuse, wings (or parts of wings), main gear, etc., the idea being that everything is an object, and it takes time to process any object on the screen, therefore - wanting high frame rates, the designer will skip those bits that aren't necessary to the sim at that moment..

I wasn't questioning what I saw. I was trying to help Steve get an answer to these two questions he asked:

"Can you sit in the VC and raise your seat until you go through the roof and the look around?  How big is the VC cockpit relative to the plane?"

Yes - it's ok - my fault for not clicking on the pic: it only looked like a 1/4 of the aircraft, and I'm sure Steve wanted just what you posted, (which becomes fully visible when one clicks on it)

and I thought.....  ..

Duh.

I'll just go away now.... (sigh) so sad...
