November 28, 200421 yr Lately, when I'm on final approach and about to land, ATC tells me to GA without apparant reason. Slope is good, lined up with runway and I was given clearance for landing. Why the GA? Second problem has to do with the new TQ by CH Products. While cruising in the MAAM DC3 with MAP set @ 30-31", one of the engines surges to full power untill I move the throttle stick a little and then reset it. This happens several times during the flight or while still on the ground.Any ideas? Thoughts appreciated.
November 28, 200421 yr Author If you've got a good internet connection I'd say 'bin' MS ATC and join VATSIM. I've only just done so and can't understand why I didn't earlier. Real ATC, so you have to follow instructions, but you won't find yourself being overtaken by AI aircraft on final approach or flown into mountains. It's a fantastic learning experience that I'd recommend to anyone. http://vatsim.net/I know this doesn't answer your question but hope that it converts you to flying online :-)Best wishes!Gavin Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
November 30, 200421 yr Don't know about the second one, but the GA could be that there's a plane on the runway that hasn't left the runway yet. Try setting your AI to 0% and see whether the problem recurs.
November 30, 200421 yr No aircraft on the runway at my approach. This happens when I'm about 500' from the threshold and about 100' above the ground. I've just decided to ignore ATC and land. Of course they always want me to reply, and when I don't, they cancel my IFR flight. Now I have to fight with other AC on the ground as they take up the taxiways. Came face to face with a GA craft and I had to go around him even thoufg I was on the taxiway first. Oh well!I fixed the first problem regarding the surging TQ throttle. I had the the throttle axis on my CH Pro oke assigned as well as to the TQ. Once I deleted that assignment, all worked well. Thanks for your suggestions and help. Does VATSIM cover the Virgin Islands?
November 30, 200421 yr Hi. 2nd problem may be something to do with the controller- if it hasn't been moved for a couple of minutes for instance settings seem to go to a default, but when you move the controller again it comes back to life.I use a cordless joystick which will show the same throttle 'problem' as yours if i use just the keyboard for a little while, but by clicking a button it'll come back to life.
December 1, 200421 yr Hi,If another aircraft was cleared to land before you were, then you will be told to go around when you get to around 200 ft AGL if the first aircraft hasn't landed yet.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
December 1, 200421 yr What are you flying? It could be another aircraft on approach that is faster, or with less fuel has already been given a clearance, and you have more fuel. Or maybe an aircraft was given clearance by the tower to take off, before you got close enough to get your clearance. The aircraft may not yet be on the runway, but about to begin to move onto it. One thing that I do, when approaching a commercial field, I go to Traffic, and uncheck GA flights... Or if approaching a GA field, uncheck Commercial. This makes for a big jump in framerates, and easier manual control when landing. It also reduces the amount of traffic handled by ATC, so you can respond to calls faster. That way it is less likely for other aircraft to be cleared to land, if I am slow in responding. Bob

If you get GATraffic from the library, you can have your GA AI to be distributed more realistically, I use UT and the airliners only go to big airports and GA traffic only land/depart from the smaller GA fields.

Yep, that is why I use it. But, I use ProjectAI instead for commercial, as it is free. Have actually removed all flyable aircraft, except the C172, C182, and B1900 which improves framerates. If I decide to fly a different aircraft, then I copy them back from my backup folder. Bob
