November 30, 200421 yr If i understand correctly, FS9 does model icing conditions when you fly, BUT... does it model it on the ground?in other words, is it possible to have icing problems before you take off in fs9? or only once airborne? could you take off with icing conditions and stall on takeoff in fs9? or not?thanksciao!Brian S Ciao!
November 30, 200421 yr Yes. I picked up icing taxiing and stalled soon after takeoff. Even though for various reasons it is not realistic, I have not come across working deicing stations in scenery so I run wing deicing during taxi in freezing precip, turn it off just before the takeoff roll and initial few feet of climbout while max performance is needed, and back on ASAP.Worked for me on heavier turbo-props I was using.
November 30, 200421 yr Well, that's certainly not realistic, if that's how it works. Ground icing and in-flight icing are completely different phenomena, and occur in different parts of the plane. The problem on the ground is ice, snow, or frost accumulating on the top of the wing and/or horizontal stabilizer and disrupting airflow during takeoff. On-board deicing equipment only covers the wing leading edge (since that's where ice forms during flight), and is completely ineffective on the ground.
