October 12, 201312 yr Says it really - with the latest version, I'm suddenly getting Security Essentials flagging xpwiz.exe as a potential security threat and asking me to send file for analysis. Has anyone else had this/do we know why/is there any way to stop this. Seems to have started following last SE definition update . . . UAC off and everything run as admin. Mike

Mike Thanks for reporting this. It's definitely a false positive. Besides "xpwiz.exe" is digitally signed as coming from FS++ and not "unknown publisher" in which case you would have good reason to be concerned. What MCE package version is this happening with? And while not prompted by this thread, a new package (2.5.7.2) has been uploaded this morning. Can you confirm if it's doing it with this one too? Thanks EDIT: I just ran a full scan of the Multi Crew Experience installation folder using Microsoft Security Essentials (patched to latest definition) under Windows 7, and no files were flagged-up. At least not with the latest V2.5.7.2 These false positives do come up from time to time. It's extremely rare to happen with MS Securiy Esentials though. Neither does Norton flag things on a whim. More likely to happen with the other "deceptive" (supposedly free) packages like Avast, Avira or BitDefender. They basically flag anything at random hoping to give you the illusion of security hoping you eventually buy the payware version. Never mind that in the process of installing themselves, they would have added a toolbar to IE or Chrome (isn't that a form of malware?). AVG used to flag mce.exe on almost every release until we let them know in strong terms about the practice. They no longer do it. Avast is the next stupid package that needs to be singled out. October 12, 201312 yr Author Says 2.5.68 in startup splash. Manual dated 18/08/2013. The warning doesn't say so much as a positive rather unknown/suspicious - please send for analysis (which I did). Whatever. it comes up about once a day. I'll download the new version and try. It might obviously be a couple of days before we know whether it triggers or not Cheers
October 12, 201312 yr Author Can't seem to edit my post. I have also run a SE scan and nothing was flagged - this on 2.5.7.2 also. I agree with you about these other packages. I only use SE and Malwarebytes. I'll let you know if anything comes up' will other wise say OK and marksolved. thanks. It may just have been a corrupted download but who knows . . .
October 16, 201312 yr Avast is the next stupid package that needs to be singled out. Hi Gerald Yup I had Avast flag xpwiz.exe today when installing V2.5.7.2. Time to give them the AVG "singling out". Glad to know its a false positive and can ignore it. Rob Robin Harris
October 20, 201312 yr Author No more flagging from SE with latest version so, thanks, for me solved. Mike
November 13, 201312 yr Commercial Member Gerald, Before you slag off Avast any further, I suggest you read the article below written by experts in their field: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/software/379729/avast-free-antivirus It may be prudent if, in future, you restrict your views to software within the games industry, rather than provide ill-informed views on software from a more professional sphere.
