October 14, 201312 yr Hi all, So this time, I'm not exactly getting a direct crash to desktop forcing me look throughout the event viewer for the problem. The problem looks like the picture shown below and it happens at random with airports I have scenery for and don't have scenery for. I have SweetFX installed and I am thinking that SweetFX is the culprit but since it's an obvious problem with graphics, it could really be anything. Any ideas are extremely helpful. Thanks, - Ryan

October 14, 201312 yr Author Sorry about that, here's a link for ya - http://postimg.org/image/f5cc8i6w3/
October 14, 201312 yr Hhhmmm that is weird. It's also WAY above my pay grade. Somebody will be able to help you though. Sorry I couldn't be more useful. Well actually, why don't you try updating or reinstalling your video drivers. That is sometimes a good place to start for these sorts of things. Have you tried uninstalling or disabling sweetfx to see if it happens?
October 14, 201312 yr Author I have tried both of those ideas, and I am pointing my finger at SweetFX because when alt+enter does happen to work and gets me into my desired screen view, some of the textures that are in the picture I sent are seen for a split second before giving me the screen. When I uninstall SweetFX, (which I'm guessing consists of deleting the SweetFX files in the directory), I'm unable to open up my simulator. Fsx's loadup screen comes up and then it hangs for about 20 seconds or so and then the screen dissapears without any notice or any evidence in the event viewer than "unknown."Could it possibly be that the new SweetFX colors / suite / what ever you want to call it is too much to handle for my graphics card?PS - Awesome avatar, I'm a Liverpool fan myself
October 14, 201312 yr All you have to do is remove the sweetfx.dll and ini from the main fsx folder, run fsx and see if the problem reoccurs. If not, it is sweetfx. I have absolutely no idea what all of the components of sweetfx are. It must have an ini file like sweetfx.ini installed in the main fsx folder too. FSX crashed when you tried to start up fsx after "uninstalling" sweetfx as the .ini was loading and could not find its components. So you have to do some research and figure out what components are in sweetfx and make sure all of them are removed. If you cannot find all of the components, then you will need to uninstall fsx and then reinstall it. Make sure there are no sweetfx components in the Effects folder too. Here's an excellent guide for uninstalling/reinstalling fsx - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx. Sweetfx, and the ENB module before it, is not compatible on all systems. Many people are having problems with both modules and they have caused several CTD's. It seems like most are having problems configuring it properly. With Sweet FX you are hacking a DirectX component which is always dangerous and difficult to do even for some computer experts. In the CTD world, you get rid of the offending program that is causing the crash and not try to find better configurations. If you have further unexplained crashes or it was not SweetFX that caused your crash, you need to download and run AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html and copy and paste the results here for analysis. October 14, 201312 yr Hi Jim knows what he is talking about, I would just say don't be in a rush to reinstall fsx. I found this : http://forum.avsim.net/topic/416894-sweetfx-ctds-any-closer-to-a-fix/ AA seems to be a problem with sweetfx, so if you do decide you still want to use it, there's some good information in that thread. Have you tried the latest version of sweetfx? So uninstall sweetfx first correctly as Jim said and see what happens. Always nice meet someone who supports the right team too! Lee
October 14, 201312 yr Author Thanks guys! I looked through the link that Lee sent and I think I'd rather go for a more permanent fix (just uninstalling SweetFX). So, even though FSX won't look nearly as good visually anymore, it's still stable, which should be a flight simmer's #1 priority over the looks I think. If I ever get a better graphics card, which I think is a big reason why SweetFX was acting up, I'll try SweetFX again. Until then, blue skies. Thanks gents! - Ryan
October 14, 201312 yr Try the FXAA tool. No crashes and lots of options for setting it up based on your wants.
