CFI RetiredI of course couldn't answer everyone who thanked me for posting the information on how to fly a Griffon Spitfire, so please allow me to return your kind words with this post addressed to everyone who showed so much interest.I sincerely hope the information was useful, and that those of you who purchased this fine aircraft will now be able to understand it a bit better and in doing so, enjoy the experience a bit more.If any of you desire information on aerobatics or anything else associated with the handling of high performance airplanes, please feel free to keep in touch.I'm always available at [email protected] the best to you,Dudley Henriques
December 3, 200421 yr And thank you, Dudley! Your real world experience with this airplane confirmed my strong gut feeling that RealAir's Spitfire flies "right". It's especially significant that your techniques can be applied directly to the sim. After my first test flight earlier this week, I set up a crosswind to try out its handling in the transition from taxi to flight. I first set the wind to blow from the left (which would counteract the tendency of the nose to pull to the right on takeoff) and then from the right (which would add to the right-turning tendency). I think this is the ultimate test of a simulated taildragger, and the Spitfire performed wonderfully from initial takeoff run to tail on the pavement after landing. But the icing on the cake was the way that the downwind main settled gently to the runway after first setting down on the upwind main in a sideslip. It's a beautiful thing to behold! As if the incredible flight model, gorgeous paint job, and smooth gauges weren't enough... the "civilianized" cockpit has a VOR with glideslope, and this airplane flies a really nice instrument approach. And on top of all that, you provided first-hand experience with the real thing. All in all, it's been a VERY good week!Ken
December 3, 200421 yr Hi Dudley,You have a real gift for description...sort of reminds me of Chuck Yeager's no nonsense delivery. Your excellent tips on flying the Spit have clearly been a wonderful resource for people here and your enthusiasm for the aircraft (I mean the real one) comes over so infectiously and engagingly you have no doubt won yourself a Henrique fan club on this forum. No wonder you are a successful aviation journalist. Many thanks and best wishes,Rob Young Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
December 3, 200421 yr A fan club indeed Rob. And another sale. I never would have purchased the Spitfire if Dudley hadn't so convincingly described just how good a simulation it is. And he was right on all accounts. I think it's the best MSFS aircraft I've ever owned (and that's most of them). What a great job.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage.
