October 16, 201312 yr Hi all, I know how I spend my money isn't really anyone's problem, but just wanted a second opinion from a more versatile community. Essentially, I have on the back of my mind two "different" addons. I like system complexity and for the past x years, I've been focused on what you consider as a contemporary airliner (boeings, ... I was going to say airbus but realise I don't actually fly it, DH8 etc.). Now I want to try something "different" but couldn't really decide, nor can I justify getting two as I know I won't be able to learn both of them. So please if you could make a selection on which would you get if you wanted something different and if you could also comment on why your selection would be super helpful! Or if you have another idea, please also tell me. Thank you in advance. Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
October 16, 201312 yr I voted for the Concorde because I Would like to get it but I don't have it yet! Regarding the F/A 18 I don't know anything about it but if you want a fighter check out Milviz. And their is a great freeware F35 here: http://indiafoxtecho.blogspot.nl/2013/10/f-35-lightning-ii-version-230-limited.html I think its got some system complexity to it Here is a little movie I made of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=552GyQfK_pM My most recent addon's where Milviz 737, Milviz F15e and Milviz F86 Sabre. I have and continue to enjoy them all. Especially the 737-200c
October 16, 201312 yr Author lol, thanks for that, what a landing! Two things I look for mainly; System complexity/accuracy, and cockpit visuals. RE fighters in particular, I'm not fussed, it's just that my local air base has s.hornets around, and seeing it in person during a refueling flight is fascinating. However, Concorde, no doubt is very accurate in its simulation, cockpit visuals are quite nicely done also, but it's not something I've seen in the real world. Back in the FS9 days, I flew the concorde and rather enjoyed it. Never got into the depths of things but with what I flew I liked it. So it's hard tossing up between the two. And I can't justify getting both of them. Milviz does look stunning. The 732 in particular, however I've heard mixed opinions on it, and it's an aircraft that is reasonably alien to me, therefore I'm not that keen to get it as of this minute. RE other aircraft from Milviz I simply don't know about (ie I've never heard of them). Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
October 16, 201312 yr I own both and they are both UNBELIEVABLE, PHENOMENAL, AMAZING, etc. The vrs f18 package turns fsx into DCS  The ConcordeX was made by ex-PMDG employees that worked on the MD11 Project and it's also simply amazing. Trust me, 1 day you will own both.
October 16, 201312 yr Author The vrs f18 package turns fsx into DCS Music to my ears Trust me, 1 day you will own both. Oh I know... Isn't it a worry >_< Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
October 16, 201312 yr I suspect you will get a Civilian Vs. Military result from your vote! I know I voted for Concorde because I have zero interest in anything military! PS.... But I do own Concorde and it's fantastic; but expect a huge learning curve and a serious study sim.
October 17, 201312 yr Author Concorde seems to be the winner so far and by far, I wonder is it because this is more a civil simmed community thus the bias goes towards something with no fire power? Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
October 17, 201312 yr Concorde = PMDG Quality, made by ex-PMDG employees VRS = DCS Quality Pick your poison
October 17, 201312 yr Concorde. Kind of biased because I fly only civilian planes with no interest in military whatsoever, but that would be my personal choice.
October 18, 201312 yr Alright, I'll wade into what is essentially a personal preference issue. I have a range of planes that I fly regularly with the emphasis on complexity and utility - PMDG's MD-11F, 737NGX, B777, and JS4100 - Flight1's KingAir and Mustang, CoolSky's DC-9, etc, etc. So I love a high fidelity, complex civilian sim aircraft, and I use these planes on VATSIM flying for 2 virtual airlines. When I tire of tubes, I fly RealAir, Milviz and A2A planes, both GA and WW2 fighters. That said, get the VSR Hornet. It's beautiful, complex, FAST, and the coders did a phenomenal job modeling its systems, from navigation to engines to weapons. Even if you never touch the weapons systems, the plane can keep you busy for hours, AND...you get to try your hand at carrier landings to boot. The documentation is terrific, and the forums are a wealth of knowledge on everything related to this incredible aircraft. It's only drawback is that it doesn't fly slowly very well...enjoy! October 18, 201312 yr Author Thank you for your feedbacks. Wayne, thanks for your detailed description, very good way of putting it. I just spend 80 bux on another addon which wasn't on the books initially but made its way onto my bankstatement; the Av EFB (still waiting for the confirmation code to come through, it's taken 6 hours already :( ) However, both of those aircraft are still struggling. October 18, 201312 yr Concorde. The reason it doesn't get the buzz like some others is because it's so hardcore that it actually becomes a pain in the butt to fly. I haven't loaded up the darned thing in a year. It's the best, but once you get into it, you're likely to say it's maybe a little too much for the drink a beer, fly a flight quick type thing. And then, like me, you'll keep it as a museum piece, but feel bad about it, because it really is one of the best planes made to date for FSX. You take your 2000 Microsoft Captain hours and leave them at the door with this one. I have DCS. I don't know about VRS, but no military plane in FSX can come close to the planes in DCS. That's some hard core ****
October 18, 201312 yr Author Yea I'm reasonably active on DCS as well but just starting it. At this time, there is no s.hornet available for DCS but I heard VRS is DCS in FSX. Having heard that tickles my will. You might like to have a look at VRSimulation if you're interested, and judge it for yourself. Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
