Bill Lyons Cub Problem?

Featured Replies

In FS9, the Bill Lyons J3-Cub has no problems.

The only problem I have in FSX is that with the exception of the trailing edge with the control services, the wing is transparent, virtually non existent. I have tried about everything I can think of with no success toward a reason or solution. Note that the clip wing livery does not have this problem and the texture is full and complete. All yellow versions in the package are missing those textures.

Has anyone else seen this issue and possibly knows a solution. Outside of this, the bird is excellent in both simulators.

From memory, Bill used a gauge to display the reg number on the wing.

You could look in the panel.cfg for the gauge and try commenting it out.

If I remember correctly the gauge name was nnumber.cab. it should be obvious.

Upon further review.....

Those textures appear to be part of the VC. As such, there is no way that I know of to edit them as they are part of the compiled .mdl.

As for "having no problems in FSX", I installed cub4free.zip and see several issues.

No gauges in the VC, just see-through holes.

Almost no working gauges in the 2D. This could be fixed, I would prefer to fly this from the VC though.

Lots of "FS98" gauges to click through every time the plane loads, and no way to eliminate them as they are part of the VC.

I loved this plane in FS9 and would like to see it in FSX. Do you have another version that works better than the one I installed?

regards,

Joe

Thanks for the reply Joe:

I knew I was into something a bit over my head regarding the wing and was afraid there was nothing that could be done about it. Guess the best route would be to avoid the outside view, or just ignore this problem. I will keep fiddling with it and maybe I will stumble onto something. Maybe someone else will chime in on this with a new idea.

I peeked and as you say they are all "see-through holes" for this bird in the VC panel. You probably will not be interested in the following as you state that you "prefer to fly this from the VC though". I am afraid I am not a VC purest, and in fact with a few exceptions ignore them and prefer the functionality of the 2D panels. I also edit all of my panels with addons or modifications which is too much of a hassle to me in the VC's. I usually add a partial 2D panel to the ones I like with only a VC  panel for my favorite addons.

I do not have "another version" but literally years ago I did edit the 2D panel of all of Bill's cubs in this package to my personal preferences. In virtually all of my birds (A hanger full) I have some common addons that no Cub would be apt to include, but they can easily be ignored, you can rem them, or delete them as desired. If you would desire to see what I have I would be happy to email a copy to you. just email me to: [email protected].

I have no "FS98" gauges to click through". It has been so long ago that I don't remember the complete scenario as to how this old memory got here from there, but I don't remember this being a  problem.

I too love this old bird. I use to have a J3 many years ago, although I always felt like a heretic as it was painted gray instead of yellow. I flight instructed in it, charging $8.00 per hour, dual or solo. Today you would be doing good to shoot a touch and go with the fuel that would buy.

Again, thanks for the reply:
