October 17, 201312 yr It's still peak foliage season in northern/northwestern NY where I'm flying but at the start of October all the trees lose their leaves regardless of where I am located it seems. So right now I'm flying with the date always set to Sept 30th to get the foliage but I would prefer if possible to fly with the proper date to get the proper sun position and all that. Is there a way to make FSX display fall colors in October? Drew Sikora Staff Blog Founder/Designer, MSE Airports
October 17, 201312 yr Commercial Member So you need to make a seasons adjustment... it works a lot like a land/water class adjustment, easiest way is to make a waterclass in SBuilderX then modify the SBX generated .inf to produce a seasons file instead of a waterclass. You start with a waterclass because that's what SBX makes and the values for waterclass are the same as those for a seasons modification ("shallow inland water blue" has the same indexed color value as "hard winter" for example). There's a thread over at FSDeveloper: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3503 Jim
October 17, 201312 yr Another way is to make a polygon in Google Earth and if you have OSGeo4W installed use gdal_rasterize to make GeoTiffs and then resample, as described in this thread about making regions: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=288546 I made a BGL to shift October in the Northeast to Fall and then transition to hard winter over November and December. The BGL and source files are here: https://sites.google.com/site/fsimdiary/files/NortheastFall.zip?attredirects=0&d=1 It's very easy to do but one problem is with a polygon the transition between seasons is quite abrupt. Might be better to add a lot more points so it's more feathered. Barry Friedman
October 17, 201312 yr Author Thanks guys. Regarding the abrupt poly change, that's fine since I would be laying the poly to make sure I don't fly over/near the boundary anyways Drew Sikora Staff Blog Founder/Designer, MSE Airports
