FS Global 2008 sufficient?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

having the oppurtunity to buy FS Global 2008 second hand, but do I need that really? What is the difference between 2008,2010 and Ultimate? Is there a significant difference? When price goes down for ORBX will buy that, too but would those stuff works together well? And what is about Ultimate Terrain X?

There are so many addons....

Hi,

I use FS GLOBAL 2008, and have never felt compelled to spend the fairly considerable amounts of money to upgrade to 2010 or Ultimate versions.     Those later versions do have more up to date topographical data but 2008 is still great and a fantastic upgrade to default FSX terrain mesh.

There are some issues - such as at Van Nuys (default version and the FTX Global Airports version, although the Aerosoft LA version is fine), where FS Global does not have a 'flatten' assigned and as a result the airport is seriously screwed up, with mountains running through the runway! ....... but 99% of the time FS Global 2008 is just great.

Arent there a lot of plateau's with airports on with FS Global ?

FTX Global will include flattens for all airports to avoid this.

I use FS Global 2008 still, and add freeware mesh for the Alps, Himalaya and other areas where needed.

Well, AFAIK, they include a tool, free with the 2010 and later versions, but as far as I can see, if you use the 2008 version you have to buy the flattens:-

But as I said a couple of posts above, there aren't "lot's of plateaus" with 2008, there are a small number.  Van Nuys being one.

Not if you use the full FTX Global series from ORBX: We are correcting the elevation of all 24,000 FSX airports. What that means is if you use a good quality mesh you will have no issues at. The FS Global 2008/2010/2012 all fall into this category and so does FSGenesis.
