November 2, 201312 yr Hi, I'm still new with X-Plane but have been flightsimming for several years before. For X-Plane scenery improvement I downloaded the OSM+Europe and some Photosceneries from Simheaven. When I get a new photoscenery and just run it it is placed on top of the custom scenery.ini-file. Autogen objects like houses and buildings look nice, but don't always match the underlying terrain images. Also trees and forests are placed everywhere. This is NOT the default US-looking set of houses that comes with X-Plane! Now when I move the photoscenery-file down to the bottom of the config.scenery.ini file list where it is recommended to be a completely different texture set for autogen buildings is displayed then. Autogen houses and forests now match exactly the right locations of the underlying terrain, but they look different and worse. Now the autogen buildings are shown that also come with the osm-europe set. They also are much higher and bigger. My scenery.ini-file from top to down is like this: 1. airports 2. osm-europe 3. libraries: opensceneryx, ruscenery, r2scenery, Europe library 4. photosceneries My questions: 1. Why are different autogen houses shown when a photoscenery is on top of the scenery.ini file ? 2. How can I change the autogen houses and objects to the better looking set when the photoscenery-file is at the end of the scenery.ini-file where it belongs? 3. If You are using Simheavens osm and photo-sceneries, whats Your exact order of files in the scenery.ini for best looking outcome? Thank You!
November 2, 201312 yr Just one question: Are you using Europe OSM only or OSM + Autogen ? Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
November 2, 201312 yr 1. Why are different autogen houses shown when a photoscenery is on top of the scenery.ini file ? Pilot Balu added the european autogen changes that were first intodruced in the german aerosoft forum, since they offer a much more realistic look than the default autogen. This library also changes the types of cars and trains that are driving around. But since the autogen doesn't know anything about the real location of houses x-plane tries to guess plausible location of houses due to the road network. If you use OSM files the buildings are placed and generated in a totally different manner. It doesn't use the roads from the original OSM vut so called building objects. But these objects are only rough outlines of the buikdings on the ground and if you are lucky someone added the height and the class of the buikding. But OSM doesn't know anything about the roof, or the color of the building . It can't use the objects that are used for autogen, instead it has to use Objects from OpenSceneryX, which contains many objects that were drawn for X-Plane 9. In some cases it can't even use real house objects, instead it draws several facades to generate an instant building if there are no suitable buildings found. The location of buildings is always the same: real sceneries at the top , followed by OSM maps, photo scneries and mesh enhancements. Karsten Schubert
November 3, 201312 yr Author So far I used osm europe+only (no autogen) Thanks for Your explanation. Yes, I was looking for the Europe library buildings. I tried now with osm europe+autogen and now I get a mixture of both sets of houses. Some of the europe houses are placed randomly along streets and some other houses from the other set are placed into the real locations. On a few locations there are small european autogen houses mixed inside bigger block-buildings from the osm set. Is there any way to get the european autogen houses at the right osm locations without having the big simple looking block buildings apparently drawn by the osm europe? Or should I just wait until 1.25 or 1.30 with new textures? (Don't get me wrong, X-plane has improved a lot with these add-on sceneries and libraries and from a higher altitude it looks much better than the default XP. I enjoy them and I'm really grateful for them! A special thanks to all creators of sceneries and libraries! I really appreciate Your work and giving away most of it for free! Thank You!)

X-Plane by itself uses autogen, and while they will add new and better looking buildings they simply have no plans to use the real locations since you can't do it in such a scale and in fact there are many locations where OSM doesn't know anything about the buildings! In fact even the OSM maps that Pilot Balu currently offers are in dact a kind of super OSM, since his maps do much more than the original OSM offered. There are already many improvements (like the addition of forest areas or the capability to have OSM and autogen in nearly the same area) included. Such improvements would have to happen in the generation of the OSM maps or the OpenScenery Library. Such changes are outside the scope of Laminar. They will improve their autogen significvantly in 10.30 as well as with the new HD mesh alpilotx is currently working on. But these projests won't contain anything to get the real location of buildings. That's the job of scenery designers, not of a workflow that has to populate the world. But if you are asking for a better result from higher altitudes: They are working on it. I think they will look much more reasonable even without the help of UrbanMaxx Extreme. Karsten Schubert
November 4, 201312 yr Author Thanks for Your reply! I'm still learning how the XP scenery stuff works...
