Interesting weather in the US midwest tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow (Monday 11-11-13 here in the US), there's a polar cold front moving south into the midwest. Looking at the ADDS site, and using the TAF (?Terminal Area Forecast for Omaha (KOMA) and Chicago (KORD)- 2 airports an hour's flight apart in a jet- I see the following forecast:

Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS)

Output produced by METARs form (0117 UTC 11 November 2013)

found at http://aviationweather.gov/adds/metars/

At 1700Z, 11-11-13, there is some IFR wx at KORD with snow, overcast ceilings at 700 feet, and gusty winds. Nearby Omaha has the winds but is VFR. With a suitable weather injection application this would provide a big contrast in weather over a short distance (basically the frontal boundary).

I love looking for this type of weather event, giving some changes in weather over short distances. If you go to the ADDS site and use @IL and @NE, you will get the entire 2 states. Best to wait until 1700Z and get the current metar.

Thanks, Bruce.
