Nvida GPU Boost - Are you really boosting? My observations

Featured Replies

No, you don't understand, mine is not boosting in FSX, is just boosting in other games, like BF3 and BF4! In FSX is running at 1150, it's stock clock!

Oh ok, I was a bit confused there.

thanks for clarifying that yours is doing the same as mine.

I think I read in another thread you also have a GTX 780? Would you mind testing out to see if your GPU is using it's boost clock under the scenarios I mentioned?

Ok, I've had a quick look at it. It seems like it doesn't boost because it doesn't have to. I can get my 780 to boost whilst having locked @ 30 and v-sync half rate by setting 16xS + 4xSGSS AA. At that point GPU load would be up at high 80%. Using 8xS + 2xSGSS AA in the same scenario results in no boost and GPU load around 30%. Where I checked is by no means a killer scenario for a GPU.

I could also trigger boost at 8xS + 2xSGSS in more GPU demanding situations (read clouds) than when having fair Wx.

So, my GTX780 will boost in FSX when it needs to, without using K-boost, when demanding situations occur. But, a lot of the time, it's pretty much overkill for FSX and sits at its base clock.

I'ts a nice, powerful card though. I love the quietness, even when you put load at it.

Thanks for trying it out for me. Confirms my observations as well. I was initially concerned my GPU wasn't boosting where it should be.  :good:

How'd the floors turn out?
