December 13, 200421 yr Hi Does anyone know if there's a method or utility that would allow aircraft shadows (or other drop menu options) to be assigned a single keypress ?RegardsGary
December 17, 200421 yr Great question so lets see if "bumping" this to the top of the list again helps. Sure looks funny on a cloudy, rainy day with the aircraft shadows and just don't like to have to take the time to go thru the "setting" to turn them off. A quicker way would really be a help. Anyone know how to do it? Jerrycwo4
December 18, 200421 yr This may or may not help... The attached is a gauge that will do just what has been asked here - toggles aircraft shadows. The only catch is that it requires a registered version of FSUIPC.The syntax is:gauge24=shadow_toggle!shadow_toggle, 841,563,20Doughttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/100903.zip
December 23, 200421 yr Re: Aircraft shadow switch.I was so excited when I read about this switch (gauge), then so disappointed when I could not make it work. I tried to install it in a FS2004 aircraft: I put the attached downloaded "gauge" into the main gauge folder and entered the pannel entry into the pannel cfg. Still no Aircraft Shadow gauge. Has anyone installed this gauge sucessfuly. Please, Please, tell me how you did it. I have been looking for a gauge like this for a long time. Thanks, Jerrycwo4
December 23, 200421 yr I don't know how much you've worked with panel design but did you check to see if the first two numbers (841,563) needed adjustment on your particular panel? Those numbers are the X and Y coordinates of where to locate the gauge on your panel. If your panel's size is 800x600, then the gauge is beyond the right-hand margin of your screen. The easiest way to find a starting point is to pick some "landmark" on the panel and place the new gauge there. For example, if the panel.cfg has an entry such as:gauge18=Cessna!Nav GPS Switch, 463, 59Then, you can replace the words "Cessna!Nav GPS Switch" with the name of the new gauge and the Shadow gauge will appear where the Nav/GPS switch used to be. Once you know that it works, then you can set about figuring out the coordinates to get it placed where you want it and, of course reinstating your Nav/GPS switch. I hope that this is helpful. R-
December 23, 200421 yr Have you just put the gauge in gauge folder ? If so, create a new folder within your main gauge folder. Rename it shadow_toggle and put the gauge in that. Russell.
December 23, 200421 yr When you downloaded the attachment, you should have got a zip file by the name of 100903.zip. You do need to extract this file, which contains the actual gauge file - shadow_toggle.gau. The extracted gauge file goes in the main gauges folder. It will show up as an unlabelled toggle switch. Make sure it isn't hidden behind another gauge. As one of the other posters noted, you will likely need to change the x and y coordinates to suit the panel you are using it on.Doug
December 29, 200421 yr It Works !!!! Thanks to the above guys who took the time to reply and explain the panals working, I tried agin and this time I was sucessful. It was just a matter of changing the "location" numbers to what they were suppose to be and yes, it does turn OFF and ON the aircraft shadows of all aircraft: yours and the AI aircraft. Now, can anyone tell me how to make a "toggle switch" for a gauge for an aircraft that has no toggle switch? Thanks again to the aboveguys for their help. JERRYCWO4
January 1, 200521 yr Is there any significant performance increase gained when aircraft shadows are turned off?
January 1, 200521 yr Author I definitely see an increase of about 2-3 fps when shadows are turned off - unfortunately, i like to see them on, as, to me, aircraft appear to "float" over the ground when they're off.I started this thread sometime ago and was surprised to now see an answer, i must now go and checkout the above gauge !!!Gary
January 1, 200521 yr Author HiI just attempted to download the above library file and was told that it no longer existed (out of date i guess) - any chance someone could give me a new link to the file ???Many thanksGary
January 1, 200521 yr Yes, there is a HUGE performance increase when you remove shadows, especially if you have a lot of AI traffic.Dan.
January 1, 200521 yr I still have the "shadow Gauge and it's only 9 kb in size so if you will email me I'll send it to you. Jerrycwo4Email: [email protected] Please us SHADOW GAUGE in the subject title.
January 3, 200521 yr Wow, would love to try it- I bet it gives that performance increase while in the air- shadows are continually calculated but useless/unseen while flying- then you can turn it on for a better looking view while on the ground.Wonder if someone could eMail the file to me as [email protected]!
