A dumb question for the LINDA community.

Two weeks ago, I had heard of LINDA but had no clue what it was.  I then purchased the VRInsight MCP II and have since come to realize the brilliance of LINDA.  The behind the scenes work is awesome but what really makes it shine is the user interface.

 

Now the dumb question.  I can't figure out why the profiles I have downloaded for the NGX, 777, Q400, etc. are not setup with the corresponding PMDG or Dash settings and its left to the user.  Now I understand that each of us will have different preferences but the basic setup would be the same for all of us.  Seems like we are all duplicating effort to get the EFIS and MCP working like the addon aircraft intended.  Maybe these are available and I am just missing it, regardless I would be interested in some feedback on this.  thanks.

Simply because Guenter the person who creates the vast majority of the profiles doesn't have all the hardware that Linda works with. For example he used to own the MCP1 but he sold it after he got a MCP2. Without the actual hardware you have to manually edit the configuration files in a text editor to make the assignments and I don't blame anyone for not wanting to be a secretary spending 8 hours typing for nothing, that's the whole reason LINDA was brought to fruition i.e. to make life easier for EVERYONE including the chaps who spend countless hours making the profiles for the rest of us to use.

 

Also you need to read the release notes, some of the profiles have assignments already available but they are turned off by default so as not to overwrite the users existing settings. Instructions are in the release notes (somewhere in the download, or in the forum) explaining which file needs renaming to enable it.

Thanks Andy.  I will read the release notes and see if I can sort it out.

 

One last question, is there anything preventing users from uploading to the Avsim library their custom profiles once they are completed?  It may be useful for others.

No there isn't anything preventing them doing that, it makes more sense to post it in the downloads section in this LINDA sub forum though, its much better organised and easier to get to than trawling file library.
