With the help of the DX10 thread updated by Paul J and the Steve's software, I now have a new FSX!

My previous experience with the PMDG 777 and long distance flights did not result in many OOMs, but I did achieved this by tuning down my settings.  After installing DX10 Fixer and spending a few hours adjusting my fsx.cfg along with the setting adjusters in DX10, I am really happy with the results - bloom, self-shadowing, ground shadows - and a nearly constant fixed 30 FPS in external view - regardless of the cloud conditions or whether I am viewing the top or bottom of the aircraft, and a respectable 15+ FPS in the PMDG 737 NGX cockpit and even more in the 777 cockpit. I know my prior setup on DX9 could not achieve this. So if you are on the fence, I would highly recommend this software and the investment of time you will spend to upgrade your FSX experience.

Thanks Paul for giving back to the hobby - I still find it hard to believe how much more efficiently the sim is working in DX10 mode with Steve's product and your insights and knowledge.
