Megascenery in P3D2

Featured Replies

To make Megascenery work at its best, add the following to your Prepar3d.cfg file:

Under [DISPLAY]

TextureMaxLoad=6

As always, only do this if you are comfortable playing around with the .cfg file, and always make a copy of the original first!

TextureMaxLoad=6 is the default for FSX and for FS9 it is TextureMaxLoad=3.  This is without the entry in the configs.  I doubt LM has changed this value in P3DV2.  It is recommended by FSX configuration experts to leave this setting out of your config.  Raising it higher than 6 will use a lot of resources (some Internet searches indicate it can be raised to 9 or 12).  According to one of the developers at Microsoft (Steve Lacey), the value of TextureMaxLoad (6) is multiplied by the Texture_Bandwidth_Mult configuration variable (in my P3D2.cfg, this variable is 30) and divided by the target frame rate (mine is 60) only in the case where you have a target frame rate set. With 'unlimited', the variable will have no effect. So, you can see that the value is a multiplier, rather than having any specific units.  The value equals the number of bytes per frame that will be rendered (in my case 3).

I think it is important that everyone understands what the variable does during your tweaking.  The Source of my info mainly came from posts made by ******* Bojote, NickN, and Steve Lacey.

I was just passing on the advice given by LM themselves in their "Learning Center." They specifically advised placing that line in the Prepar3d.cfg  if you are using "photo scenery", so they must have had a reason for doing so (I hope).
