This is just an observation. The first time I started a descent in the 777 I was blown away by the sound of the engines spooling down from SPD, to IDLE, to HOLD This was the most ominous sound I have ever heard. Like a giant bird of prey come to take the earth away or the gates of hell opening to reveal it’s frightening sounds. The engines startup and takeoff sounds are impressive but for my money nothing can beat the sound of engines at the beginning of descent. 50 plus descents later I am still as impressed as I was the first time.
