Scenic Approach In Western Pennsylvania

Featured Replies

I dint even reelis Hanonemelly was in Pennsylvania.

What I do in cases like this, is load up FSNav, and set up a flight plan. It goes to every airfield in the area, then I do a TNG at each. Sooner or later find what Im looking for... plus it is fun, some call it a 'Round Robin, but I dont always make a complete circuit. Landing are the most interesting part of FSimming for me! If you want some Challanges, every time you hear of bad weather head for that location. Try Ontario, CA, when the weather report says, "Santa Ana winds at 35kts gusting to 50 or 60kts..." Ive watched many an aircraft do a go around, then land on the next pass. Ive had many a time when I did more than a dozen, before winds subsided enough for me to land. Other times have given up, and headed for an alternate field. Ive also flown through several Hurricane's, using real weather and the weather channel on cable, its easy to find them. Bob

I tried KLBE last night. It is not modeled very well in FS9. In reality, it is pretty hilly around it as I recall. Granted it has been about 10 years since I was there... maybe time has sweetened my memry (such as it is). I seemed to remember a mountain ridge along one side of the approach. It certainly isn;t there in FS9. I don't think this is going to be the one you are looking for. Sorry!Merry CHRISTmas everyone!Earl

too much lemonade?

Far, far too much. In this shot I've just exited the company hangar at Hananomelly and am alreasdy in a spot of bother with the trimhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101665.jpg

Merry Christmas to everyone!

yup, beaver and booze don't mix very well

Merry Christmas to everbody.Happy Holidays to those who get offended :) I grew up in West Pa. I miss home right now:( Anyhow have you tried Bellaire Nelson Field. I haven't flown there in a while, but I seem to recall in FS2004 it was on the Ohio River along the right side coming from the South. It is west of PIT @ the AIR VOR/DME. Hope it's the one your looking for.Merry Christmas

Hey everyone's so kind...even when there's been a bit too much of the bubbly. :-lol I've so far tried Latrobe, Wiliamsport, Zilienople, and Arnold Palmer. Nice approaches...but not the sacred cow.I will try Bellaire this evening if I can get away from the family.Thanks.

I think you must mean Nelson's Run Airport, 39PN, in Western PA, just south of KGKJ. This was a short hop from KGKJ and sadly, not the sacred cow. However, it is right in the neck of the woods from where I seem to remember this airport being. I also think I was looking to flying around Moraine State Park where the Boy Scouts had a National Jamboree in 1972(?) (Yep, I was there!). My mind is also clouded as to whether this was with FS98 or FS2000...and beginning to believe that one of these versions either was beautifully wrong in their rendition or FS9 is unfortunately right.Of course, while I'd almost swear this was in Western PA, I'm beginning to wonder if this was a dream or somewhere out in the Western U.S. Several of these PA landings have been in flat areas. The area of this airport was "woody" and picturesque -- flying through a tunnel carved by trees with the airport in the distant clearing.Oh well, I haven't had that much to drink over the holiday and I don't do drugs. Maybe I imagined this all?!?!?!:-violin But if you think otherwise, my ears...uh...eyes are open! Thanks for all of your suggestions so far!Ed Lin, D.O.S.

Now then, Ed Lin, you tell us in one breath that your ears are open and that you don't do drugs. You tell us you might be dreaming this landing in the forest type place. You tell us you were a boy scout on a Jamboree in Pennsylvania in '72 where you first saw this mythical place; then you think mebbee it was way out west you saw it.I don't live in America but even I know that Pencilvaynia is a long long way from the west and surely a boy scout would know where one place was from another! Especially 2000 miles apart. Even on bubbly. In fact I'm beginning to think you don't believe even Hanomoly exists as you make no mention of flying there.I'll jusdt post asnother shot of the taxiway to help you.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101841.jpg

That pretty much sums it up.

Glad to help:+ !
