Scenic Approach In Western Pennsylvania

Featured Replies

I recall during my FS2000 days a stunning approach through what I believe was a valley to a runway in Western Pennsylvania. I believe it was north of Pittsburgh or nearby. Does anyone have a clue as to what airport I'm thinking of? I'd like to do it again in FS9. Thanks.

seeing that nobody is rushing to the rescue... ;-)for what it's worth... go to aviationtoolbox.org, download detroit south sectional and have a look. i found something that fits the description on cincinnati north though:-)

Could it be Latrobe KLBE? I used to fly there in FS2000 also. I used to actually fly in to Pittsburgh and drive there a few times a year. Beautiful in the fall. I haven't tried it in FS2004 yet but it seems there was a ridge on the left as you approach....Hope this helps.Merry CHRISTmas!Earl

Fella's, thanks for your responses. I'll have to dig out my Detroit sectional and see if this is the culprit. I'll let you know.

Are you sure it was Western PA? It sound like the approach into Williamsport PA, stunning mountains on the right side as you descend into the valley & land along the river.

Just did Williamsport, PA. Very nice and I thank you. But not the one I'm looking for.The approach I'm looking for surprised even me as it was almost as if I were flying through a tunnel to the runway. The hills on the sides were VERY close to the aircraft. Truly stunning experience.I'll hopefully have time to try Latrobe this evening. Thanks again.

an fs mesh anomaly? ;-)

Hi Vilk! No, this wasn't a situation with a runway buried in a pit out in the boonies. It was clearly a legit approach with an above ground runway (not mesh-it-tized). I remember flying through the valley and clearly seeing the runway up ahead. While you could clearly see above you while in flight, it definately had a feel of flying through a path to your destination. Now I wanna land in every airport in PA till I find out which one. Stay tuned!

Just a friendly heads-up:"definately" is usually misspelled in this forum -it's definitely spelled "definitely"

Latrobe?Isn't that where Arnie's Home golf Course is?

Try Zelienople, it's northwest of Pittsburgh...I think I spelled it right:-)

Note: deKe resides in the Pacific NW where mountings is mountings. :D :D D:

Zelionople is very flatttt. Mebbee its a hanomoly.

Ron thanks. I appreciate everyone's help here...I did Zelionople this morning (in the snow, no less). Nice approach but not the one I was looking for. I'm learning a lot about Pennsylvania from this little exercise which is very refreshing.I will certainly try Hanomoly and I still haven't tried Latrobe Arnold Palmer (KLBE) as yet. I'll let you know. Thanks!

yup, definately let us know how hanomoly went;-)
